The state of Oregon has fully decriminalized hard drugs. You will no longer go to prison for buying or possessing, for example, fentanyl.

In my opinion, this is huge for CTB, the risk of having your life ruined if you get unlucky when buying something to OD on is gone. If you get caught buying/possessing, I believe you will just get a fine (I'm assuming rehab is for continual users), but you won't go to prison.

One could fly to Oregon just to buy and quickly OD on fentanyl (if you have any suggestions for a better hard drug to OD on, please let me know). So they don't have to deal with the ridiculous prices and shipping of N, or buying a shotgun and ammo, etc. all they'd have to do is just get enough fentanyl into their bloodstream. And without having to worry about going to prison over it. That seems ideal.

Thoughts?

This reminds me of the autonomy allowed in Amsterdam. I would be really interested to see how this plays out, but am doubtful that I will be around to see it.

Wow, a little bit of common sense in America. Who knew...

Now to plan a trip from my home state to Oregon!

In 2022, Oregon will legalize psychiatrist administered euthanasia, NOT just psychiatrist assisted suicide, but they will be authorized to euthanize consenting patients with psychiatric and psychological disturbances.

This needs to happen ASAP. Everybody who is making any money off of people who have these difficulties can either CURE them immediately and PERMANENTLY, or shut the fuck up and get dishwashing jobs!

sounds good in theory, but it's still illegal to sell or possess more than is needed for personal use, so I'd imagine they're not gonna be much easier to get your hands on.

My psychiatrist has contacts all over, including Oregon. He's tipped me off. (Previously, I informed him that psychiatrist assisted suicide was implemented in Canada which caught him stunned and flatfooted. He's been determined to keep abreast of such developments since.)

It's an open "secret" that Oregon is a base of operations for Exit International. Derek Humphry's lived outside Eugene for years, and his wife Gretchen Crocker is the youngest daughter of an Oregon farming family. He's on the radical left of the right to die movement, and this is the moment Exit International's been waiting for decades now. Oregon has always been on the vanguard of this movement in the United States.

As for me, I have contacts in Vermont where another such push is now underway. If I don't CTB, I will probably get involved in getting psychiatrist administered euthanasia legalized in VT. (Recreational marijuana was legalized there last month.) Interestingly, my psychiatrist agrees that the best way for his profession to prevent suicides is to effectively prevent and treat the conditions which make suicide and euthanasia desirable. (He's aging and stopped accepting new patients in 2014. I was his final new case.)

When Oregon and Vermont do legalize it, there will probably be the usual requirement of residency to be eligible for this service, but psychiatrist administered euthanasia will quickly follow as the law of the entire nation.

This is good news for sure. Not sure if the devil's in the details but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Wow, that's the year I decided I'd ctb too. How lucky! I'm actually really excited since a plane ride there from where I am seems fairly cheap. :hihi:

If assisted suicide is available to me, half of my depression and anxiety will be gone instantly. I can even see myself trying at life and face my problems. Just knowing the fact that i always have that dignified, peaceful, and easy exit, and that society understands is such a relief. Is there a way we can voice our support and help the cause for legalization? I know Vermont and Oregon are very progressive states, but how well are the legalization process going there?

I haven't heard anything about psychiatric euthanasia being allowed in Oregon yet. Any word about this being in the pipeline?
