They should sell them at Wal-Mart...

You could probably find some type of vessel and make your own "pod" with an N2 tank and some simple valving.

More money. They could easily reuse the chambers. But why do that when you can 3D-print another one for a few hundred bucks and charge $17k?

right. as #locked*n*loaded said, you can go much cheaper and wouldn't have to travel that far. just ridiculous. i don't think they sell n2 here in a canister so didn't look into it.

they say you can use that as a coffin *shakes head* then they kind of encourage you to opt for cremation XD

It would be amazing if I could use it. I can afford to pay for it, but I'm not sure if I will be accepted there and I have a few questions about it. Are young people allowed to use it or only elderly people with physical ilnesses? What ilnesses do you need to have in order to be allowed to use it? Do I have to be a citizen in Switzerland or is it for foreigners as well? What's the company's name, how do I contact them and what documents do I need?

I've read it doubles up as a coffin.

Its not meant for reusage. It serves as a coffin afterwards

I wonder how exactly that unit could be illegal anywhere in the world. Is nitrogen a banned substance now?

legal euthanasia countries restore my faith in humanity just a little. even if it's just believing in the right to die for the physically sick, it's still a step towards the right decision. i wish all nations were humane enough.

Nothing is illegal until it gets banned.

I have the same questions as you, mainly if those who aren't Swiss citizens will be allowed to use it.

they'll probably put restrictions on printing shops but i doubt that's even necessary. so many other practical alternatives. just the most wasteful inert gas method

Yes, it truly would be. Allowing people the option of such a peaceful death would prevent so much unnecessary suffering, it'd be relieving having that option. The fact that it's not already avaliable is unacceptable to me, nobody should have to struggle to die ever. I'd be glad to have that option as I'd always prefer to not exist no matter what, all that comforts me is the thought of this existence permanently disappearing into nothingness.

I wonder how effective this pod really is when comparing other inert gas delivery system. They mention pushing a button inside the pod to start the gas to filling the pod. I would imagine that the pod would have air inside it before one decides to push the button, all that air would have to be replaced by nitrogen pretty rapid. It would be pretty noisy being inside it and they would probably need bleed valves to push the remaining air outside of the pod.

Or they would release the nitrogen slowly, making you groggy and finally making you fall asleep. The disadvantage of doing it slowly would be the symptoms of hypoxemia could surface depending on how fast the method is, headache confusion, coughing to name a few. Then the obvious SI you would have to fight being there are no locks and can be aborted at any time.

The biggest advantage i see is way less claustrophobic experience compared to an exit bag, but I would argue that a face mask is not that uncomfortable and way faster.

But I can also see the more slow experience of the pod being something positive since you will have time to think and reflect on your destination while inside waiting for your doom. It may also give you time to say your final goodbyes if anyone is witnessing it.

Edit

I found a source saying it would take approximately 10 min to lose unconsciousness. I don't think the experience should be that loud being that slow and it would rather be a matter of find the courage to wait 10 min. With the price of the pod and the amount of nitrogen they would waste aborting, I would have no problem finding courage.

The Sarco FAQs page linked by Dayrain above now talks of a required mental evaluation by a medical professional. Previously it had said a computer with AI will ask occupant a series of questions to determine whether they are mentally competent or not. A major goal of Sarco was to "de-medicalize" dying, to not have doctors or other medical professionals involved in the process. I guess after the arrest of that SN supplier Philip Nitschke is trying to fit the Sarco within the current Swiss MAiD legal framework.
