If I leave one or more notes specifically addressed to loved ones and have those, say, pinned to my shirt for when I'm found, what obligations do the emergency workers have to make sure that they get delivered to their intended targets? Since it's a potential crime scene, what's the likelihood that the police would intervene or respect the deceased's final wishes?

(I live in the southeastern United States, so of course, I'm concerned about how things would be done here, but I'm sure citizens/residents of other countries might be curious about how things are done where they live, too?)

There's no guarantee your notes will be delivered as police will see this as a crime scene. Maybe several weeks later they will get them, but I'm guessing that's a low probability. You would be better off to drop them in the mailbox if you want to make sure they get the note.

Just my 2 cents.

P.S. I'm in the southeast as well.

According a cop friend of mine who has talked about the impact of having to read these notes: It will get handed over to the police, who will usually give photocopy's of the original to the next of kin until the investigation is considered complete and all personal effects are released. Then the originals will be handed over. Of course this is how his precinct does it but it will vary from place to place.

I did have an idea this morning to circumvent that possibility; I want to know what y'all think…

I live alone in a house to myself. My plan is to schedule a text message to someone I trust (delaying by enough time where it would be too late to bring me back) to notify the police to come to my unlocked house to find me. I'd have the notes on me to help confirm it was an intentional suicide.

Before the deed, however, I could hide duplicate copies of my notes offsite, away from my house. I could delay-text either the same or a second trusted person to point them towards the hidden cache of notes/documents for them to distribute directly.

In case something malfunctions or otherwise goes wrong, and I had to wait to try again significantly later, I wouldn't have to worry about mail getting delivered that would tip off my intents before I had another go. And if I ended up getting too much "Survival Instinct" to complete the task, I can always take back the hidden documents before anyone finds it.

P.S. I'm in the southeast as well.

As a fellow southerner, if you live close by and want a new (short term) friend, I could just give them to you to hold on to! :))

We can be new (short term) friends, but you better decide differently with the notes. If I ctb and have them in my possession, they'll think I made them, and wonder who these people are.
