The results you can expect from this vary. Small town cops will have more patience than city cops, but less training. Some cities, cops may shoot first and ask questions later, but other cities may just tase you to avoid scandal. The nonlethal approach to confrontation is expanding.

Also incredibly selfish. We may have issues and not wish to be here, but no one should involve innocents in their plans

Suicide by cop is insanely unreliable and the costs of failure are very high. Who cares about the cop, this is a bad method for selfish reasons too.

It's unreliable. As far as as I know most cops carry only low caliber guns on their bodies and if you're shot anywhere but your brain, there are chances that you'll be hospitalised, survive and then be arrested. Also, I wouldn't choose this method since there is another person involved in it and the cop will most likely feel guilty and be traumatised.

Wouldn't say .45 is low caliber. .45 can cause your body to go into hydrostatic shock even if you arent gonna die from the gunshot wound.

Just yesterday the Wal-Mart shooter was gunned down by police in Mississippi, he survived and was immediately rushed into surgery. It sounds like he will survive.

Cops are trained to detect who's trying to commit suicide by cop. Although I'm sure it can be pretty hard for them to tell in the heat of the moment.

Anyway, I do not think this is a good method at all. If the cops figure out that you're just playing a game, they won't shoot you, and you'll go to prison for years. If they don't detect you're playing a game, they might shoot you in the leg, and once you're out of the hospital you'll go to prison for years.

Suicide by cop certainly sounds like a nice way to go, in theory, but as said before, the likely hood you will actually be gunned down by police is very slim. I'm sure plenty of cops will see through your intention pretty quickly, so they will without a doubt try to avoid using any lethal force. But I'm not a cop so I don't know, it's just down to whether you'd want to put your life into someone else's hands and risk living through it

If you're acting out of control the most they will do is taze you, put you in the back of a cruiser or ambulance then it's off to the hospital for a psychological evaluation, and for what comes after I'm sure nobody wants that

I'm not really knowledgeable about either medicine or guns, so you may be right. However there's still a chance that you might survive a gunshot wound or even several if not hit on vital spots. Also if you fall unconscious after being shot and are rushed to a hospital, chances of survival increase.

as many others have said, the worst that will likely happen is you would be tased/non-lethally shot and then arrested for whatever charge they deem fit. from a moral standpoint, i wouldn't recommend bringing an innocent person into your plans as this could leave them with a very traumatic experience and a lot of issues of their own, potentially driving them to suicide as well. it's not worth it in my opinion.

I wouldn't advise it. You are more likely to end up in jail or in jail with a non-lethal bullet hole than dead. 1) Police have terrible aim. For every ten shots police take with the intent to hit someone only 1 shot hits on average. 2) Acting ruggedly is not suppose to be enough to get you shot and is much more likely to just get you arrested. Tazed if you stick with acting obnoxiously. 3)What do you mean you have no method out? The number of methods out are boundless and some are very cheap.

Pretty much what everyone else said here. It's a terrible, terrible idea. Not only are you risking a lot of serious prison time (most likely for threatening law enforcement and/or assault/battery on one) by doing that, but also the reliability of dying is low. The worst case is being seriously injured, but still alive and crippled, then confined to a mental ward/prison and rotting there forever (until death). Also, the next best case is dying slowly through your injuries (also not pleasant).

That is all the ethical and moral issues aside though (which are another thing if you do care about them).

I just can't justify putting another person in that position. I know a lot of people are like fuck the cops, but they're people too, with feelings. I'm not into taking anyone else down with me.

But that aside, it's risky and not guaranteed. You're more likely to go to prison, and I can't imagine that will make your situation any less shitty.

Why don't you buy a gun? Do it yourself. This is better. You can do it where do you want and more peacefull. Dont make people bloody handed. They are not just a cop, they are humans.

Where are you from mate? Maybe you can buy a pump gun. It's easier to find than a hand gun. Maybe you need a hunting lisence but at last its cheap.

Don't believe the movies. Unless you're about to kill someone else, they'll likely shoot your arm or foot and then haul you to the hospital. You might even be criminally prosecuted. Your prosecutor might drop charges if you agree to be institutionalized, but it depends on your city.

I wouldnt say they have terrible aim. No matter how good you are at a range... Stress is a large factor. I can shoot an AR15 with 1 inch groupings at 100 yards at the range. With someone screaming/distracting me I would be lucky to get the same groupings at 50 yards. Saying someone is a bad shot because theyre trained one way, and then expected to function in another way is wrong.

Besides, how many riots have we had because cops shot and killed someone. A big factor in court cases is how many bullets were fired vs how many that hit. If we use your math, the cop who shot that kid with a knife in Chicago 14-15 times, had to reload 8 or 9 times.

The person who told me cops have bad aimed was a retired cop of 30 thirty years who owned an armed security company. Statically cops have bad aim. Cops generally don't practice shooting and often fail armed security tests after the retire etc /having to practice shooting. Hence they have bad aim.

Anecdotal evidence does not count as real evidence unfortunately, but I will drop the topic as it will not help anyone to discuss it further.

OP, just know you can do better than suicide by cop.

Stats prove it. You are the one who gave anecdotal evidence to try to discredit the stats. I listed an experts opinion in his field and stats. You would have to compare the stats on cops missing their intending to targets to other groups etc not give an explanation.

I would respectfully ask you reconsider that methodology? We want out I know; but I know peace officers who have been forced to squeeze the trigger in self defense against a perceived deadly threat. When one officer was told by the individuals family that this person used that police officer to end their own lives; that officer left the force. Ten months later suicided with their own weapon. They couldn't live with what they had done.

Again; not trolling you. Asking you to reconsider. That officer had small children. Our own lives are one thing; someone else's; especially a child's isn't acceptable. Please give it some more thought is all I am asking. I wish you luck in whatever path you choose. It's your life. You have a right to peace.

Do you live somewhere with easy access to guns? If you can get your own gun, that would be far more reliable. I know I'm moralizing here, but it's a dick move to involve an innocent person in your suicide. I'm sure there are some piece of shit trigger-happy cops that would be happy to do the deed, but there are plenty of decent officers that would be traumatized by such an event.

Police will not shoot you in the leg, or the head, or anywhere but the centre of mass. This is where they're trained to shoot, and if a cop has drawn his or her weapon (for whatever reason) their goal is now lethal force and the aim is to put you down. End of. And most police are good enough shots to make that happen if you're within ten feet. However as much as I try to be pro-choice I could never recommend this method.

It places bystanders at risks.

It has a very high failure rate.

Failing will mean more than a stay at your local psych ward; you will go to prison for some time. This will make it next to impossible to CTB, though you may wish you could all the more so.

It's not fair to the police officer. They have to live with it for the rest of their life.

Also - from a more selfish standpoint - it contributes to the already awful social stigma against the suicidal.

The only way I could see suicide-by-cop as a first choice is if someone wanted to make some kind of political statement (and there are FAR better ways to do this I promise you) or if you just couldn't overcome your survival instincts but again there are other ways to take things, 'out of your hands,' so to speak. Ways which are less likely to result in you being imprisoned. Please try to be open to another way. For yourself, for whoever else might be in the area at the time (bullet trajectories are inherently unpredictable); for the man or woman who has to live with having pulled the trigger for the rest of their life, and for all of us. There are other, better options.
