I will be honest in my position I think the aspergers has helped me in getting some jobs, and getting my foot in the door for others, I am pretty sure by ticking the box in the disability section of the application, it looks good for their diversity quota. I am pretty sure the majority of people with autism are low functioning and have a learning disability. I am high functioning and probably around the top 1% in being able to function but I do know people that are in the awkward spot between high and low functioning and it can be very hard for them to pass an interview.
On topic, I was on track to probably go really far and work in good paying jobs, but its not worth it to me. Like I said I do have other, worse problems than autism, but to be honest if I didn't I can see the autism being a very good contender for ruining my life and future. I can certainly imagine how it could affect others... Well yeah, if you can't get your outside life in order, your REAL life in order, I didn't consider it worth it to work even a very well paid good job at a fairly young age.
I don't want to impose anything on others with autism. But the biggest early cause of death is suicide. Then it's strokes and heart attacks, which is possibly caused by too much stress/anxiety that we have to deal with. So we're being told to go to work where we feel like shit and are literally killing us and cutting our average life expectancy down to 54. What the fuck? It's a shitty deal and I don't mind joining my brothers and sisters.
