Where previously society would be adapted to the needs of the individual, now the individual is considered sick when the pressures of our society render them with feelings of powerlessness and despondency, and it is the individual who must now be changed to accomodate the system. Psychotherapies and anti-depressants are our attempts to make changes in people so that they become more suitable for the system. We're truly lost.

"Subreddits are also attractive because of the anonymity Reddit provides and because posters don't have to worry that someone will call emergency services if they speak freely. But this freedom is a blessing and a curse, since Reddit has not been able to intervene"

Maybe they should intervene by giving some good arguments for staying alive? Oh right, they usually don't have any.

#makeassistedslegal i just wish the people who want to control our fucking lives so bad can live in our shoes for a day only then would they legalize euthanasia. Imagine if there was a machine that would let people actually live in our shoes for one day, euthanasia would be easily accessible world wide, maybe even by the touch of an app. Im hopeing one day society will wake up and will help people with disabilities go.

What are they trying to accomplish here? Most people on those subs hate hotlines or already had a bad experience with them. The crisis text line is so under-manned too, people have to wait at least a few hours before talking to someone. They'll just cause that traffic to increase, and people who want that help will be even less likely to get it.

"Now, when posts are flagged for self-harm, the user will automatically receive a direct message with contact information for the Crisis Text Line and a recommendation that they speak with a crisis counselor. Reddit will also automatically send a direct message to the person who initially flagged the post, thanking them for helping a fellow Redditor in crisis and asking if they would like support themselves."

Well … I guess I won't be posting there anymore.:angry::angry: I don't really go there much anymore anyway. Just when S.S. is down.
I used to like to go to the Anti-Natalist subreddit. That was how I found the original S.S. subreddit before it was banned.

The last time I was on I was censored for saying the word Asshole.

Suicide hotlines are just about liability, by and large.

Screw efficiency!

This headline just restored my faith in the goodness of humanity. I feel so happy I could cry.

"Reddit will also automatically send a direct message to the person who initially flagged the post, thanking them for helping a fellow Redditor in crisis and asking if they would like support themselves."

Just look at the level of commitment and the extent to which Reddit has thought this through!

While it's a nice thought and a somewhat good idea, I doubt it's going to generate much of a positive outcome. I guess Reddit want to be seen as doing something proactive to help people in need and take some credit for that but honestly, it's not the right approach. Not only will the system be backed up massively due to more traffic meaning in someone's darkest moment they have to wait their turn, it's my understanding that suicide hotlines are pretty much bullshit and not what someone wants to deal with in their time of need.

Silly way to protect their own backs from legal pressure. What are they gonna say to those who are severely ill or in severe pain? Their it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem mantra won't work here.

Sometimes I dream of all of us having our own island. Where we can build our own life and community and have a fresh start away from the judgemental, difficult world that people have created. Hopefully there's someone here who knows how to get the internet up and running. Can't live without that one.

I've gotten a few of these automatically generated messages. When I'm actively suffering, I can't think of anything worse, knowing what happens on most crisis-lines (being told you should live, try a new therapist or more medication, and finally....when you tell them you have been doing this for 3 decades and you are too tired, they get annoyed with you.

Nanny state gone mad. Not to be unexpected on Reddit, it's a fantastic place for those that don't have an original opinion to give their opinions to others spouting the opinions they've stolen off others.

Write only what you think will be upvoted or don't bother at all.
