Extremely painful. You'll suffer from excruciating pain way before you're body is even at risk of cardiac arrest, which is what would essentially kill you.

I've read about Buddhist monks that were able to do it decently peaceful. The trick if I remember is to not give in to water at all as you can live a long time with a little water and it causes more pain in the end

There is a community of people who do long term fasting (multiple weeks with zero calories). Most of them claim that hunger goes away after about 3 days. However, there comes a point after about a month when severe hunger pangs start setting in and the body begins to malfunction in unusual ways (severe headaches, chest pain and random fainting are a few examples). Most long-term fasters quit when they hit this point, but I suppose you would have to stick through it. My guess is that it would be longer and more painful than it's really worth.

Also, it depends a lot on your bmi. There was a guy in great britain who fasted for a year without dying, but he weighed over 400 pounds at the beginning of the fast. On the other hand, there have been cases of malnourished people in third world countries dying in a matter of days from starvation.

All of this assumes you would continue to drink water. If not, this post does not apply.

I didn't eat for 4 months due to anxiety/stress from medical diagnosis and didn't die, just ended up hospitalized and unable to walk due to Wernickes Encephalopathy caused by malnutrition/lack of thiamine & B1 vitamins. I do NOT recommend.

It was not extremely painful for me, and cardiac arrest after not eating for 4 months would have been welcomed.

I've been through an eating disorder and got down to 89 pounds by virtually starving myself for months. That level of hunger was painful, and I became very frail. In all honesty there was something euphoric about it, but I think that was largely due to my disordered thinking. It's really easy to put the weight back on, and without the extreme amount of commitment caused by a severe ED, it's not feasible. You will have ample opportunity to end up in a hospital though, and everyone around you will be extremely concerned and aware of what you're doing.

I watched some documentaries on Prime Amazon and one girl was really really sick looking (I don't want to describe) and I could not understand how she could still be alive.... so there is no guarantee how long it would take and as others have said, its painful and fully obvious something is very wrong.

I admit that I sometimes want to do this, as it seems to be logistically the easiest thing to do, plus with sedatives you could just sleep your days away... my BMI is around 19 so I'd need to lose quite a bit more weight before subjecting myself to the full food and water fast.

I'm drawn to this method because I already don't eat during the day due to anxiety. I eat when I wake up while I'm able and a bit hungry then in the evening before going to bed when the anxiety has subsided a bit and I "made it through the day".
Also, it could be considered a natural death and people around you would see it coming, it would be less of a shock...

But considering most people know Im depressed, unemployed, and not well, i doubt CTBing in any way would be all that shocking to anyone.

I watched a documentary on a woman who was discharged from a mental health facility and found herself an empty house. She ate just apples. As the winter came, she had no more apples to eat. She kept a journal of her painful death. Near the end she just barely scribble the date.

It didn't sound like a pleasant way to die.

That's true, unless I isolate myself for a month I guess

If you search for VSED in your favourite search engine, there is a ton of information about this method. It would appear that this is a pretty standard method for elderly people that just want to ctb and don't have access to voluntary euthanasia.

My understanding is that it can get very painful, but it can also be quite peaceful towards the end. Taking fluid but no food is said to turn the process into a long and drawn out affair, whereas stopping both food and fluid makes it much quicker. One tip I did find in my research is that during the process, a way to get around having a very dry and painful mouth is to use a spray bottle to spray a small amount of water into the mouth as necessary. Not enough to swallow, but just enough to help moisten the inside of the mouth.

Older people are more affected by every physiological issue that may occur and is weakened by it. Unless your BMI is already dangerously low (likely you'd already be in forced treatment, that's another story), the average middle-aged person would suffer far more for a long long and unpredictable time.
