I found this from Twitter and Melanie Saville who is Joe's sister:

Now they keep putting all the blame on the site, but look right here. Here is one major reason as to why he killed himself without the sites influence that the media or the fixthe26 Karens won't acknowledge. Why keep blaming everything all on this site then? Why?

Front page news. they didn't Id this site by name this time. they want to ban SN from Amazon. they don't ban knives or rope though. I guess they figure if the slightly less painful options are gone, ppl will not want to Resort to using something more painful. except they do and hurts them tremendously. good job activists

In the initial article about this story over a year ago, it also mentions that he fell victim to a stabbing attack in broad daylight, which might've traumatized him and contributed to his suicidality. British police aren't doing shit to keep the streets safe because they are busy chasing down law-abiding citizens for purchasing SN or owning an unlicensed kitchen knife. That's something she could funnel her rage and grief into and achieve meaningful change instead of harrasing and demonizing other suicidal people.

Yeah, they don't get that we can actually be honest here. People always say "you can be honest with me" but they don't actually mean it because as soon as you bring up depression that's more than "im sad that i had a breakup" they don't know what to do. If anything it just causes them to look down on you.

Would any of these petitions actually have the ability to shut the site down for good? I hope not, the people signing it don't realise how many people rely on SS to speak about issues without being censored.

People are self involved idiots that sign these petitions with very little actual thought. Certainly not of their own volition. Petitions can be a dangerous thing.

Honestly, whilst there's a petition for everything and they've somewhat lost their original clout I wouldn't be surprised if one or more of the agencies eventually caves just to stop being pestered. Still, there's more to it than simply disagreeing that it's ethical as it has to fit certain criteria to be censored/removed. There's various ways of going about silencing the forum and laws aren't necessarily needed if certain pressures are put on service providers. There's apparently some online safety bill being pushed at the moment too. Not sure of the details on that but as we become more and more mothered online these days I do fear it reaching its worst logical conclusion. 1954 may be more of a predictor than many us foresaw.

There's various things that can be done though. For example a private hoster with many domain names would be hard to keep down but it's risky as it could result in a raid on a persons home. Under the right circumstances that could be made very hard though.

Don't forget that there's also that global coalition that wants to try and make rules for the internet. Eventually, we ARE going to see some drastic changes to the internet and I really wouldn't be surprised if this site is caught in the crosshairs. In fact, I'd be more surprised if it wasn't.

Gah, its dismal isn't it!? Even without this site factored in. The thought of such a policed internet really bugs me. Sites like youtube have already gone to shit. I used to love youtube as a resource. Learned loads of things there. It was a decent platform for free expression for a while too. Not anymore. Though they no doubt claim to be free speach advocates. There is some utter shite on the internet and some nasty hateful people/groups that do no doubt do harm in the things they spread but hiding it won't get rid. It'll just drive it back underground, thus allowing it to fall out of site and peoples first awareness of much of it will be when it blindsides them and really does some damage.

It is a quandry - how do you protect humans from themselves? - but censorship isn't the answer. At least I don't believe it is. People love their selective ignorance these days. It's so illogical to me. I saw on the news that they're quite possibly reversing the right to have an abortion in the states. Honestly, I don't have strong views on abortion but at the end of the day it's a persons right to choose their stance on it and act accordingly. Nobody else is impacted by someone having an abortion so why go all out crazy to stop them by law?! So much for civilisation and evolution of intelligence. It seems the human race has started going backwards on the evolutionary scale. I'm perplexed!

Sorry - got a bit ranty.

Who are these suicidal experts that they keep talking about? These "experts" don't even know what they talking about. Why do they always say things like suicide is caused by a temporary problem and studies show that suicidal thoughts are always temporary? I had read another article awhile back, where these "experts" said that studies show that suicidal thoughts are always temporary and when a suicidal person talks to someone, these thoughts go away and never return. They went on to say that 90 percent of people who attempted suicide never made another attempt and went on to lead happy lives. Where are they getting this information from? Who is telling them this? They can't be getting this information from suicidal people.
It would be nice if these "experts" would treat us like real people with real feelings for once. If someone said they had suicidal thoughts, these experts should talk to them without judging them and ask them how long have had these thoughts for and what has happened in their life that they want to kill themself. They could write this down so they could better understand why people commit suicide in the first place Instead of ignoring the problem.

Fr. Wait until these people realize I have a personality disorder that comes with chronic suicidal ideation and distress, and that it isn't going to go away with medication or a few months of therapy.

Suicidal thoughts are rarely temporary tbh. Mental illness is often episodic, but those episodes always return. Why do we have to suffer through the endless cycle? Why must we always be portrayed as delusional and crazy when we simply have accepted the reality that our lives won't get better?

"The plaintiffs say posts on online suicide forums discuss the use of sodium nitrite to kill oneself and that Amazon has received complaints from people warning the company that customers are using the drug to die by suicide.

In February, a bipartisan group of House members sent a letter to Amazon asking about the retailer's sales of Sodium Nitrite and related suicides, details on what the company has done about the dangers of the substance and information about how it responded to complaints,"

Why do they care what we do and how we want to die. I kind of get why parents are upset (though you should actually monitor your child. If you were a good parent you would have known about this) but they also mention adults. Why do they care! It upsets me a lot. I'm a big believer in personal freedoms and responsibility.

What gets me with the "parents, be careful, they're coming for your children!!!!1!1" type stories is that often the people who died were full adults. Like the 17 year old is obviously a different story and kids should not be on this site, but when parents cry "oh nooooooo my poor child committed suicide, clearly they were forced into it!" or something and then the "child" is fully 27? Yeah, that was that person's own independent choice independent of SS and you as their parent should really stay out of it.

They don't even realize that these articles in themselves are leading people to sites like this. That's how I ended up here. I read an article about some one dying from suicide using info from a suicide site which provoked my interest in finding this site. I found it and am grateful I did. I just wish they would leave the site alone and let people make their own choice in regard to suicide.
