I agree. Having played some elite level sport in the past. Its portrayed as 'the best competitors' but in reality its still so much down to luck and politics and funding and 'being in the right place' and 'being in favour of the coach'. I can't deny I miss some aspects of the physicality/physical benefits of it all (moreso now staring down the barrel of an unrelated life changing chronic diagnosis) but a lot of my mental state comes from the realisation of how 'fixed' everything is in life. Even something that is portrayed as 'objective' like strength in sport. Its not at all what it seems nor what we are sold when we are growing up. And I hate that most people still don't see this.
But the explosion of division and anonymity of the internet (yes I know, ironic me saying this here), means the abuse and negativity against most players for such irrelevant activities in the world is just so ridiculous and frustrating and almost upsetting to see. And even worse that actual politics is even more overtly messing with sports politics than ever. And yet they get away with it. The thousands still bring their money and tourism and support. You'd never stop them. They don't get it.
I'm guess I gotta be glad I never got close to 'making it'.
