I don't know if I'm just not looking hard enough, but why does only South Park have a fandom? Did the people have something against Seth McFarlane or…?

If I search South Park on Tumblr, I get fan content. When I search American Dad, I just see clips from the show or reaction image screenshots. No fandom in sight. Though, I did see a Stan Smith self-shipper on TikTok … ?

Has anyone else thought about this? I just wondered why South Park has a fandom and the others don't…

There's gotta be a fandom somewhere, right? …

😅

I think it's just people see Family Guy/American Dad as the worst. Everyone I've seen has generally preferred either South Park or The Simpsons.

There is the American Dad subreddit. There is also a Bob's Burger subreddit and it is really wholesome. Tumblr doesn't come off as the type of place that a fandom for those kinds of shows would really hang out on.

Actually, a lot of people like American Dad and consider it better compared to modern Family Guy. It's just that the fandom seems to mainly hang out on Reddit rather than on Tumblr or TikTok. The show is often brought up when people talk about adult animated shows that they like, at least from my experience.

Wow, really? I didn't know people disliked those shows… is there any reason? I haven't seen the shows in years, I only watch South Park lately.

Hm, I guess you're right. I just saw other adult cartoon fandoms in Tumblr, so I thought American Dad and such would be there too.

And yeah, I have to agree, I do prefer American Dad to modern Family Guy. It's more likely to get a laugh out of me.

So I guess the fandoms do exist, but South Park's the one with… uh.. how to describe…
The "Tumblr" type of fandom?

I definitely see the American Dad fans now. I have joined the subreddit XD

I like Family Guy and American Dad... but it's hard to argue they are the cleverest thing out there. Simpsons is a shell of its original self too. Long-running shows run out of steam. South Park stays more current/topical and that makes it a little easier to keep a revolving new audience.

None of them are can't-miss TV for me. My depression also kicks in and makes it hard for me to see anything as funny anymore, but that's a different thing.

Fandoms are out there for most things, even unpopular things... you just have to look around. If you want to find one for something you like, you should be able to do so... but sometimes they are harder to find, smaller, than others.

Being in a big group doesn't mean something is better, though. Lots of people like to pile on to the current trending thing and will move to something newer or shinier as soon as the wind shifts.
