Hello
I frequently think about killing myself. I am a somewhat imaginative person so I sometimes wonder about new/unusual methods of suicide. I have set out two ideas below.
1. Probabilistic suicide pill
Nembutal is normally considered the ideal suicide drug (ignoring availability). And for people who have the will to commit suicide it is.
But there are many people who want to commit suicide but who lack the willpower to take the final action (even with something as easy as drinking a solution). I think there are many people who fall into this category.
For this latter category of people, I think we need something which they can take without knowing it will definitely kill them. I think the following might work:
- You swallow a smart pill which contains something like a highly concentrated version of nembutal (not sure if this exists).
- Before you take a pill, you program the probability (e.g. 1%, 20% that the pill will release the nembutal during its journey through your GI tract.
- If the pill activates it only does so during your sleep (i.e. during certain hours).
- If it doesn't activate then the smart pill comes out unused.
The idea is that you can take the pill without knowing you will die. I think this would make it much easier for people to kill themselves. You could keep taking it until you die one day.
Not sure if any of this is possible with today's technology.
2. Suicide lottery
I think its fair to say that many people would not kill themselves if they became rich. Not all people but many.
The idea would be as follows:
- You find 10/15/20 people who want to kill themselves.
- All but one (chosen at random) will receive a painless death.
- The one who survives will receive a large amount of money.
- The amount of money would be funded by the ones who die agreeing to allow their organs to be sold to a third party.
- The whole process would be conducted in a room where everyone was connected to an IV supplying nembutal with a random number machine to select the winner.
The advantages of this approach is that everyone is a winner: all but one receive a painless death, one person gets a large of money and one (or more) get organs which save their lives.
Obviously this is all illegal but I think it is an interesting concept.
