Anyone else planning to watch the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024? It should be an amazing sight to witness.

Only if you look directly at the sun! You can get special glasses that make it safe to watch.

If I wasn't broke I'd be there ... it'd be the 6th total eclipse in my life to see live.

No. It's only visible as total eclipse when you are at a place inside the shadow path. That's a "line" of about 150-200km width. Away from that center line you see it as partial solar eclipse. It's a fairly long one with a duration of 4m28s.

haven't heard about this one very exciting !

will mark it on my calendar because the last solar eclipse was not visible to me due to clouds passing by

I can't believe that was in 2017 but at least I got to see a Harvest Moon it was huge(felt very close), yellow, and beautiful I recommend everyone to see one of those as well

The solar eclipse is the major event but there's also a bright comet this time. The periodic comet 12P/Pons-Brooks will be near Jupiter and can probably be seen without optical aids during the eclipse. The following planets are visible during the eclipse: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
