Sodium Nitrite Question

Hi everyone

I've read the long thread on sodium nitrite but can't find an answer to my question.

Is Sodium Nitrite the same as the food grade salt that they sell on amazon ?

Some are called Saltpetre and Potassium Nitrite so I'm confused.

If I wanted to buy online in the UK would it have to be from an online chemist ?

The stuff on Amazon will not work.

SN needs to be 99% pure. The stuff on amazon is like 6% or something.

SN is not my chosen method. I do not know a ton about it. But I have browsing this forum for weeks and do know that the stuff on Amazon will not work. They had several lawsuits for selling pure SN years ago & took it all off.

From my speculation, it seems to be kinda hard to find a legit source for SN.

Potassium nitrite (not nitrate) is a completely different substance. However, it CAN be obtain off Amazon (at least in the us). I considered using PN instead of SN. Should you be able to figure out the right dose, ideally it would work. But it is MUCH less common on this forum that SN

No, it's not the same purity. You need NaNO2 that has a purity >/= 95%. Look for the data sheets and make sure the assay is greater than 95%. You can no longer buy any SN pure enough from Amazon.

You need SN that is at least 95% pure.
You won't be able to buy a suitable SN on Amazon anymore.

You need to look for chemical stores that sell SN, among others.
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, obtaining a SN is more difficult in the UK than in other European countries.
However, of course you still can.
There are just more problems.

I don't know if there is currently any company in the UK that can easily sell you SN.
You will probably have to order from another country.

Saltpetre is potassium nitrate, not nitrite. Amazon doesn't sell any pure nitrite salts anymore.

Online chemists don't sell it. Lab chemical suppliers in the UK will want proof of business/use and will only sell to registered businesses and educational institutions. You'll need to order from a chemical supplier outside of the UK.

Amazon and eBay delisted it voluntarily after the wokists attacks.

It is not banned or illegal, read past the noise people push out. Catering suppliers are the cheapest option but needs to be 99%.

I'm afraid not. If you google it enough or use a different search engine you can find places that deliver from other countries but I don't know if they are scams. Also the genuine ones will only ship to a business or college. I really would like to find a genuine supplier of SN so if anyone can help please get in touch.

I will keep looking, I see your in the UK too so if I find a legit source etc and if I'm able to order any and it arrives ill let you know. hope you do the same for me as I'm UK too.

You can lie to your doctor to get the prescription or buy it from an online pharmacy from any country where it's available over the counter.

Potassium (K), also called Kalium in some countries, and Natrium (Na), often referred to as sodium in compounds, are different atoms. So you cannot just by any random salt. No offence but a simple google search would have shown you that SN doesn't have any potassium atoms in it
