I am surprised by how much it is promoted as a method here

It's promoted due to it being an inexpensive and accessible method for most people. The pph gives it a fairly high rating in peacefulness too. There just aren't many peaceful methods available, so you just have to go with the lesser of evils. I'd love it if something better would come along, but I just can't take the risk and expense of obtaining N, which seems to be the one thing better than SN.

I think if people didn't have to CBT alone, SN would be more peaceful. Having someone to provide a little human comfort would help calm the nerves, but 99.9999% of people just aren't able to have that. I know I'd feel a lot less stressed if I could go to a place like Dignitas rather than dying alone in the middle of the night.

I think I'm actually more afraid of the anxiety and the fear of failure than the pain, and that's going to happen no matter the method. I've had 3 surgeries, and god knows how many bowel obstructions, and think the pain can't be much worse than those things. Now if you've had a pretty pain free (physically) life, than I imagine it will be more bothersome. Can't be worse than childbirth though, and many woman not only do it, but choose to do it more than once.

Pardon my ignorance - I meant to say headache. I did a quick Google search and found out that headaches and migraines are two very different things (one is more severe than the other), and they are not interchangeable. My bad.
