Discussion So, what happens when this site is eventually taken down?

The war against the right to die is getting worse. They came after our N, went after opioid-prescribing doctors, hand out dangerous "wellness checks," and now SN is becoming just as impossible to source. The only options they're letting us have are violent and messy. Just 10 years ago the internet used to have pro-ana, silk road, r/SanctionedSuicide... But now it's been made clear: our bodies don't belong to us.

So what do we do when our right to expression gets its final nail in the coffin? It might not be tomorrow, this year, or this decade, but there will come a day that SS becomes censored. Will we just be doomed to a life of a somehow amplified abject loneliness until our eventual, or not-so-eventual, deaths? Though I don't post much, this is one of the only communities where I truly feel free, and I fear its annihilation.

8chan used to have a /suicide/ board, though it didn't come back when the 8kun rebrand happened.
LostAllHope has still been around for god knows how long.
Books detailing suicide methods have been around for decades.

This site isn't the one and only hope, just as we were hardly the first, I doubt we will be the last. This site clearly has a demand, something new will crop up.

It should be a grown adults decision? I wish it were easier. I would be gone if I could just take something that would make me fall asleep and never wake up. I would be doing everyone a favor.

Nothing ever happens, this site will just move elsewhere. Most websites let go by their registrars for speech related issues have moved to .st and .top TLDs. SS admins need to fix their onion site.

Man, to think about how long LostAllHope has been around makes me realize how long I've been fucking miserable. Anyone else remember a website, I think it was called metanoia or something like that, which used to be one of the first Google results when you searched about suicide? It had this old 00s internet look and I'll always remember that it had a picture of a scale and said that suicide ideation came when people had more troubles than resources to solve them or something along those lines.

Any way, yeah, people will always find the way. And it'll be a sad day when this site is taken down because people who were heard here won't be heard anywhere else. There are people who found a little dignity here, talking with people who finally offered them empathy and going out in their own terms, they finally found something life denied them. And some people will be denied that, they'll probably end up either killing themselves in a painful and gruesome manner or attempting in a dangerous way that'll only cause them more pain. Ironic how so-called pro-lifers insist in shutting down a place that may not be perfect, but it's a haven for people who've been mistreated their whole lives.

tbf the US government has been taking down government web pages of black people who fought in wars and deporting people for not speaking english. The first amendment only protects us in so far as the ruling class chooses to uphold it. which is, not much lol

Laugh if you want, but it's fact. If it weren't, the site would have already been taken down. Why do you think all the "hate" sites (and there are MANY) are still up in the US? Freedom of speech is sacrosanct as far as government intervention, anyway. It doesn't apply to private entities.

First off, that's not the same thing at all. If the government controls those webpages, they can take them down if they want. Not saying it's right, but if they run them, they can take them down. No different if the administrator of this site decides to shut SASU down. That's their right. Neither has anything to do with the government censoring privately ran websites by shutting them down.

I doubt this site will ever be taken down, more likely it'll just stop being run once whoever owns it decides to pull the plug. There will definitely be other forums or platforms that will take its place and allows open suicide discussion

I completely forgot about the subreddit. I thought this site was my first interaction with sasu, but I remember being on that subreddit about 6 or 7 years ago.

The subreddit was banned years ago. It wasn't prolife. It was just like this site. I think you're thinking of r/suicide_watch which I agree is trash.

As someone who fell into pro-ana as a kid... it still exists. It has not fell off. It's still all over Tumblr, TikTok, and Discord (most servers run by the same people too), etc.

Anyway, I don't think this will ever get taken down. I think governments will make the internet surveiled in general before they target this site specifically.
