What would happen if you follow the steps correctly but don't use enough sn to kill you? Would you just sleep for a while and just wake up?

You have to be prepared for the possibility it's lethal. Even in small doses. The PPeH recommendation is 15 grams, but there's a documented account of somebody dying from as little as 1g.

Here's an article about a dental nurse who died after ingesting 1 gram:

I prefer to prepare for possibility that even larger is not lethal . In the past when I was doing research on Amitrypt,. OD , I was very excited,, read about fatal cases with 3 grams etc healthy individuals, well didnt happen to me with what is considered lethal dose so, and my health is very bad...
I myself no longer count on the few cases that for some reason died with very small doses of whatever they took.

@NoOneKnows I suspect death by Sodium Nitrite is pretty much guaranteed so long as you don't get rescued and taken to a hospital. Obviously, though, you're right in not trusting a few cases to prove it will kill you. At least, not in a strictly scientific way. We obviously have no way to really know it's a guaranteed death and what the likelihood of death would be based on a certain dosage. It's not like anybody could do any real research into this.

I do know what you mean though, because a huge majority of suicidal people online (who haven't done any research) tend to think you can die by taking huge handfuls of Tylenol (aka, acetaminophen or paracetamol). If you're paying attention, you'll see that there are a lot of people who claim they've tried this method and obviously didn't die. In the case of tylenol overdose, it's assumed your liver will be overwhelmed and shut down. Some people obviously have stronger livers than others and only end up doing major damage to their health.

There's always that possibility too that we live in a huge multiverse where it only appears other people die.

In reality, we each have our own universe and the other people we see "out there" that successfully committed suicide... actually kept on living in another branch of the multiverse.

I wonder how many failed suicide attempts it would take me to wise up and realize I couldn't commit suicide and I'm living in some kind of purgatory? Hmm. I don't know. That's kind of messed up to think about.

I guess there are just some things in life that even science cannot answer.

I hear yuh. Life is pretty damn exhausting, isn't it?

Obviously, though, I recommend not doing anything that will fuck your body and health up.

According to lostallhope.com, the method of using a shotgun to your head is 99% effective. I had access to a shotgun and didn't use it. I kept thinking about the 1%. That's honestly a fucked up statistic, right there. 1% of people surviving... a shotgun blast to the head. Just imagine if we really are living in a multiverse. It would be insane to be in that 1%.
