Hey guys I stumbled upon this article. It's a bit confusing to me, but I think it's saying that Sodium Nitrite is hard to pin down as the cause of death. Here's a quote from the conclusion: "The detection and quantitation of nitrite and nitrate during post-mortem toxicological investigations represents a significant challenge analytically and heavily relies upon circumstantial evidence."

Thoughts?

Weird, I thought it was easy to detect. The discolouration of skin and blood is a big sign too

The article also states that "the majority of case histories described the presence of NaNO2 at the scene of death/purchase of a suicide kit; therefore aliquots of post mortem blood were referred to a specialist laboratory." So it looks like the evidence at the scene points them in the right direction on what to look for in the bloodwork. This might be false hope but maybe if one could get rid of the containers/evidence after ingestion cause of death might be hard to determine. It would be nice if my parents thought my death was just random and not suicide.

I think the medical examiners are clued up enough to determine if something is a suicide or not. You don't just get blue skin randomly.

That's true. The skin alone might set them in the right direction on determining cause of death. Oh well, can't have everything I guess.
