Wanted to clear this up since there's a thread on here getting traction that says it turns your entire body blue and looks very scary.

That is not true.

If you actually read the study that they linked (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1752928X20300962):
The results of the autopsy showed general signs of asphyxia, such as intense cyanosis of the extremities, brown-gray-blue-red livor mortis

The "blueness" that SN causes is cyanosis, which happens to the extremities; as you can see in the picture, his fingernails are completely blue.

The discolouration of the rest of the body is liver mortis, which is the last stage of death.

On Livor Mortis:
Livor mortis (also called hypostasis) is the pooling of the blood in the body due to gravity and the lack of blood circulation as a result of the cessation of cardiac activity (Knight, 2002). These factors cause the blood to pool in the lowest points of the body, giving the skin a purplish-red discoloration.

The discolouration of the rest of the body is because of that, and the grey-yellow patches are either areas that were under pressure so the blood was forced away from them, or high points in the body that blood drained away from.

If you do a google image search for livor mortis, you will see pictures that look identical to the ones in that study, that had nothing to do with SN.

SN does not cause your body to turn blue. This isn't true, the discolouration in the photos of that study happen in every body once it has been dead for several days.

Thanks for clearing this up, it's very frustrating when people spread misinformation here. I'm glad there was someone educated enough to set the record straight

Thanks for clarifying this. Too many people overreacting over those autopsy pictures, and to be honest the body doesn't even look that bad, hanging CTBs leaves a purple face with a really unpleasant facial expression and a nasty mark on the neck, much more horrifying for whoever finds the body.

a nasty mark on the neck,
Hanging isn't my method but I'm curious. Couldn't that be solved by using something softer like a bathrobe or that silk rope? Assumably there would still be a mark but would it still be as bad as normal rope also would it be comfier where its soft?

People forget that autopsies aren't performed the day someone dies. All bodies look disgusting after a few days, whether you had an aneurysm or were hit by a train.

And yeah, hanging definitely does leave an ugly corpse. Watermelon head.

It doesn't turn your whole body blue, but it does darken your skin tone

According to this medical article, sn ingestion does commonly result in cyanosis therefore the blue nail beds and lips.

A dead body is a dead body. Not sure why people think dead people aren't supposed to look...dead?

Well, a soft material between the neck and the rope such as a towel or sponge should minimize the ligature mark since the rope won't cut into the neck.

And
A tan without risk of skin cancer? Yes!
Once again, we are concerned about the color of our skin? During life is inexcusable. After death is laughable. I understand not wanting your family to see you blue but really if you have ctb what really matters? I don't think your family/friends, will be talking about your skin tone. hopefully.

I know we're mostly talking about sn and aftereffects...hanging does not often leave an ugly corpse. You can die by asphyxiation with little trauma to the body.

I just want the least amount of psychological harm imposed on the person who has the misfortune of finding the body.
