Is it possible to end up with brain or organ damage from SN?

yes, you can become brain dead like anne heche from sn
the reason this is possible is because sn clogs your red blood cell flow and stops your brain from delievering blood

if you fail or are found. yes. it deprives your brain and organs of oxygen which causes cell death. you need to be alone for at least 8 hours to complete your journey.

Anytime someone someone has methemoglobinemia (inability or poor ability to transport O2) there is always a risk of cellular, organ and/or tissue death. It is impossible to list all the possible side effects. Most often the heart, lungs and brain are the first to be impacted as they require the most oxygen.

While methemoglobinemia induced due to nitrite toxicity can easily be reversed in a hospital setting, the rapid damage that it causes in many cases can never be cured
sn clogs your red blood cell flow and stops your brain from delievering blood
Sodium nitrite does not "clog" vascular pathways, and the brain plays no part in delivering blood. Your brain doesnt even control heart rate.

Sodium Nitrite induces methemoglobinemia. Oxygen is carried through your bloodstream by hemoglobin, a protein that's attached to your red blood cells. Sodium nitrite reacts with blood to create methemoglobin. Methemoglobin does not carry oxygen well and, when it replaces hemoglobin your consumption of O2 exceeds what is being delivered.

When the delivery rate drops excessively over a prolonged period of time, death will occur.

@Jrmull1993 is there any way to avoid brain damage if you are not found or is there a chance you wake up in your own?

@mmikkee1 Unfortunately there is no way to guarantee no brain damage if you are not able to produce a fatal outcome.

It is not my intention to take away from the effectiveness of this method. SN when taken in a well planned manner is a very viable method. Most people who do not succeed with this method come back with very little to no physical consequences. Yes there is a risk of some severe non-fatal outcomes, but that is true of every possible CTB method.

You just need to find your balance of risk vs. reward.

In severe cases of intoxication due to degenerative changes in erythrocytes and a decrease in their resistance, hemolysis and secondary hemolytic anemia occur (on the 3-5th day after poisoning). In this case, hemoglobinuria, kidney damage (nephropathy with varying degrees of acute renal failure) and liver damage (toxic hepatopathy) can be observed. Severe acute vascular insufficiency (nitrite shock), coma, pulmonary edema may develop. The clinical picture of poisoning is highly variable. In some cases, changes in the respiratory organs come to the fore, in others - in the cardiovascular and central nervous systems, in others - in the blood system.

I guess there is always some risk attached to a method to end in brain damage where the brain is oxygen denied, if found before death has occurred. That can be the same for hanging, too. Yet, the PPHB clearly states SN "is very effective. The only failures that Exit is aware of are those where there was medical intervention."

If you have enough of the stuff, i.e. a lethal dose, do the right things in preparation, and can ensure not be found for a few hours, death seems as certain as it gets.

So far I have not encountered a surviving person with SN attempt with brain damage. If someone has pls cite their sources.
Organ dmg is obviously more likely ( e.g kidney failure which is temporary btw)

Cool story. We still haven't seen any reports regarding humans.
