I keep seeing posts asking about "sleeping pills" or "sleeping tablets." People, you gotta get with the program. You're talking about ending your life, not taking a nap. If you can't be bothered to spend 5 minutes typing into Google "what medications exist for sleep" then you're not too serious about the task at hand.
In the U.S., there is not a single medication, not one, that you can purchase OTC, that is not a plain, old antihistamine, that is targeted toward putting you to sleep. And it is 99.99% guaranteed that they won't kill you. What's left are TCA's, benzodiazapines, benzodiazapine receptor agonists, barbiturates, herbal supplements, and a group the below reference cites as "miscellaneous agents," which includes Meprobamate, which, like barbiturates, good luck getting a prescription for.
Herbal supplements = useless and worthless.
TCA's MIGHT kill you, if you get the right kind and take a LOT of them (but probably not or, if so, probably not painlessly), or take them as part of a cocktail (as suggested in the PPH and EVERYWHERE else your right to die is being discussed).
Benzodiazapine receptor agonists, such as Ambien, MIGHT kill you. The link below, citing information from SAMHSA and NIDA, estimates a lethal dose to be over 10 grams. Given that the standard dosage averages 10 mg, you'd be saving them up for a long time. There are other reports of deaths following much smaller doses, but they usually involve cocktails of two or more substances.

Benzodiazapines MIGHT kill you, if you get the right kind and take a LOT of them (but probably not), or take them as part of a cocktail (as suggested in the PPH and EVERYWHERE else your right to die is being discussed), but the kind that might kill you is not the kind commonly prescribed for sleep.
Barbiturates also MIGHT kill you if you get the right kind and take a LOT of them (but probably not and, if so, it could take a long time), or take take them as part of a cocktail (as suggested in the PPH and EVERYWHERE else your right to die is being discussed), but these are extremely hard to get today.
The problem with all of the above is, to quote the PPH, reliability, and peacefulness. If you're willing to take a chance, that the combination of substances you have or can get, will be painless and swift, more power to you. Unfortunately, I'm a chicken. I don't want to know it's happening. In my efforts to locate the elusive peaceful pill, I've pirated every book on suicide methods it is possible to find on the internet, read every drug protocol used to put prisoners to death, and Googled each and every drug, plant, and seed I have found anywhere on this site. My conclusion is that there's a reason the doctors have prescribed the drug formulas they have.
Unfortunately, the books and the website traffic and media attention have all but ruined the convenient methods that were widely available even just a few years ago. So, rather than waste anymore breath regurgitating impossible wishes for that one-pop, go to sleep, guaranteed easy ride out of here, our time would be better spent mobilizing our resources to devise and refine methods which are actually available to us, such as SN (which, as of today, is legally obtainable) and chloral hydrate (which is included in the below list of miscellaneous agents and which, guess what, is the only one, to the best my extensive research has allowed me to discover, that could almost be classified as 'readily available.')
Here is the absolute best and only resource you will ever need to research every substance known to mankind for sleep.
Read that, and stop saying "sleeping pills"; the term has little to no meaning on its own.
If you are so inclined, share the knowledge your careful and diligent research has imparted or will impart to you regarding how to make chloral hydrate with SN a peaceful method, because I believe it is one of the remaining viable options.
Thoughts?
