Tw/disclaimer, I'm not trying to glorify the act of SH, I just have a weird outlook on it and was wondering kind of what it was like for other ppl?

I personally sometimes do it for your typical reasons, breakdowns/feeling overwhelmed and helpless and whatnot, but sometimes its kind of fun/I just do it for no reason. I just want to, and it's nice to see the marks. It probs has to do with scars fading, but I can go months with just scars and then one day I just say fuck it B/C I want new ones. I'm honestly not sure why. Or I just randomly do it over small things where I really don't need to, the small discomforts just act as an excuse to do it.

I was wondering if anyone else was like this? Not a 'obsessed' thing where glorification of the act happens, but also not just B/C you're depressed (Ik that undermines it but yk what I mean)

Can relate to your story, used to be the same for me. Mostly it was a way to cope with struggles, but sometimes I did it just because. And I did (and still kind of do) like appearance of scars, especially fresh ones.
Haven't done it in a while because life got a lot better tho, but still have urges from time to time.
I think the reason it can become somewhat addicting is the mechanism behind it aka body releasing pleasurable hormones from healing etc.

Glad to hear your life got better !! :) But damn, honestly didn't know the body released hormones for healing, kinda cool. But, For some reason apperence/having scars is comforting :/

the bored is real tbh. And yeahh, I have heard of cases too, its just so offputting I suppose how natural it is to go back and do it.

I do this. Or rather have done this. Self harm when I am genuinely upset looks very different. But when I cut, I usually do it when I feel happy and excited. For me it is also a bit of a kink.. I do find blood beautiful along with the cuts. It makes me happy and I like to see it on myself.

While I do have this fixation, I am not trying to romanticize the trauma that people go through that causes those to self harm, and I definitely keep it to myself as most people associate cuts with struggle, so they find it alarming when they see it on me.

One thing I wish I could find is a space for masochists that share the same "hobby", very separate from the people who are struggling with self harm. I do not like being treated as a danger to myself while I am very sanitary and very careful with how severe or light I want the damage to be, and being in the same space as those who are struggling with self harm will be harmful to them. Ideally I would like to be able to draw it online without being attacked or banned at the very least, but it is just a very delicate topic that can offend easily, and I worry I will be attacked regardless of the warnings or clarifications I put on the content.

I hope that this is not offensive, but I would like to hear your thoughts on it if so.

No, no offense in this, I actually like to see this POV. Honestly, I think ppl just see self harm as too taboo b/c its so associated with obvious mental health issues- aka mentally healthy ppl don't like when the symptoms show :^ Tho I feel like with people who struggle with SH B/C of mental health issues understand the want to do it PAST just depressive episodes and what not; they/we (whatever) have an easier time understanding why ppl do it even when doing okay. Like, I def get ppl who don't want to see it due to recovery/a weak mentality, but thats what TW's are for online. Other than that, I don't get to huge stigma and delicacy either.

I'd say I almost fall in that catagory too tho, I just wouldnt say its a kink/masochism thing for me? but I def like to see marks when I'm manic/far too 'excited' (Idk what to call that state of mind lol) I like the blood then too. I think feeling excited/wanting them is okay tho, and dont understand why ppl have such a problem with it unless it's actively affecting your health/glorifying it
