Why don't they just drive to a bridge?

Hey folks. I'm counting on your compassion in airing these ideas which are, to me, quite messy. I have often wondered if I could find someone with a communicable, fatal illness, and contract the illness, and then intentionally neglect all aspects of my health in order to expedite my process of death. AIDS is what made me think of this "method." However, it seems very difficult to find anybody who would not be exceedingly insulted by my desire to steal some of their death sentence instead of elongating and improving their life.

So I'm curious to hear from y'all:
- Have you had this idea or known someone who did?
- What sort of illnesses would this work for?
- Would this ultimately lead me to the same place, but physically worse: needing something to actually get me to die and in terrible pain?
- Is it unethical to ask an ill person to share their illness?

Just some thoughts. Thanks for fielding and not judging.

The illnesses you speak of without treatment would still see you survive a while. I suppose it would be a good way to go if you want to suffer a while first and even better to debate with people why you don't want treatment and refusing treatment, ohhhh the defiancy of it all......

The fascinating thing (and extremely depressing thing) about the human body is it seems to come with it's own built in safety mechanism to protect it against any attempt to kill it. This is why method is so crucial and why so many people will fail if not done properly (what do I know about that apart from what I've read, but I'm learning which is why I'm here) so with illness that's why you see such diversity in how long people live for once diagnosed, people will leave medical professions aghast when 8 months later they're still alive after being told they had a month at the very most. Someone I know was told they had 3 weeks at the very most as they weren't even treatable, in that they were so ill treatment would fail and 14 months later they died. At the end they had blood coming from every orifice apparently (I wasn't there so can't confirm this) they took the person's hand who was with them and at one brief moment of lucidity said they were scared. Everyone's body will have a different safety mechanism I'm sure, that's what I call it, a 'safety mechanism' actually it feels weird sometimes, like it's a supernatural presence within you, like something else lives in this body with you and it's really that which has control but it fools you into thinking you have until you try to kill it.

People who become ill just seem to get treated even worse by this system so why bother giving them the satisfaction and pleasure of watching you suffer?

Anyway, your questions: 1) No, 2) Don't know, I have an idea but would do more research before committing to that reply 3)Yes, in my opinion knowing several terminally ill people who died 4) 'Unethical' = "concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character" I guess you have to ask yourself what's right and wrong for YOU and what YOU consider good or bad behavior in yourself, then you'll have your answer as to whether or not you think it's unethical. Me? never understood why ANY genuine question would be 'unethical'.

I would just ask if it was something I wanted to do, wouldn't even think about 'ethics'.

No no no no (for me, anyway) what if once you're infected you suddenly have a severe urge to live? You are just asking for problems. Plus it may be drawn out and painful

If you are infected with HIV, you may decide to take therapy and you will live very-very long life for sure.
In addition, regular HIV positive people won't share their illness.
Drug addicts can, but you will have to use one syringe (I guess, this is the last thing you will do).
All the illnesses related to AIDS eventually will lead to very uncomfortable/painful death.
So in such a case you won't get a quick and peaceful one.
If we consider illnesses like alcohol or drug abuse, then the second option is good since you can use H or F for a decent death.

What illness can you think of that you could contract from someone and die relatively quickly without enduring atleast some major suffering? I can't think of any. I have a lifelong genetic illness that's very painful and has no treatment. It can't be contracted, but if I imagine a situation where it could be and someone asked me to help them get it, I'd know they have no idea whatsoever about the physical suffering involved. Mental illness is horrific, but trust me when I say you do not want to add physical illness ON TOP of it. It's just more suffering while you're still alive.

I have thought about this before. Not HIV but other illnesses. Like the new virus that's doing the rounds I wish I caught it and in an ideal world I'll catch it and one of the ones that have passed but wanted to live can live. It's just crap the way it works but yeah I've thought about it. I'd love something like that no matter what the suffering I'll take it knowing death is finally coming

To be fair, dying from covid seems very painful as you drown in your own lung juice and struggle to breathe.

I had it a few months ago. Thought I was going to die. My peripheral vision started darkening. But more than that, every breath was challenging. Like I couldn't get enough air no matter how much I breathed.

Illnesses that kill people get the most attention, but most illnesses just leave you fatigued and depressed. I've been ill for 10 years and it isn't even close to killing me. (sadly?)
