Wow if this was true why ain't we living in bloody paradise, what a shit developer/programmer, I go one step further maybe we are in the film similar to the Trueman Show, giving the ET audiences entertainment. My life feels like a computer program, I have been on automatic pilot since the 70's and look back now and can't believe how fast the time has passed, I think this is a glitch in The Matrix, my bloody brain has not aged mentally I still feel like I am 21, shame there isn't an on/off button,:smiling:.

Maybe when people see a tunnel with a bright light and surrounded by loved one's when they are dying we are just waking up in a medical facility, oh wow I new I shouldn't have smoked that skunk, :smiling: what if, we are a super intelligent civilization and part of the learning curve is to be plugged into a A/I Earth for a life time so we learn hard lessons before we wake up and are allowed to join society as law abiding citizens, maybe we have to be plugged in until we learn certain lessons, what if we wake up and we are still children, :smiling: sorry didn't mean to frighten anyone, lesson learned skunk is heading to the toilet, haha.

Anyone else notice a glitch in the Matrix ?

Here is my favorite Newspaper, The Sun who stole the story, :smiling:

Why not? Maybe the entire universe from start to end is an experiment lasting trillions upon trillion upon trillions of years, carried out by some pan-dimensional god-like alien. Maybe what we perceive as reality is indeed part of that matrix. There would be no way to reference this beyond our own experience so it's a good a theory as any, hence the 50/50 probability.

The holographic universe theory also would suggest something like this, that everything contained in the universe is a projection of information encoded on a lower-dimensional boundary.

Then there is the question--where did that information come from? Who or what encoded it?

And if it is all some computer simulation, why go to the trouble of encoding a universe with so many lifeless galaxies and planets and such vast stretches of empty space? I don't see the point.

That appears to me to be entirely consistent with how post classical physics interprets reality.

It may in fact be a small part of something much bigger. And life is poorly defined by us, using a set of arbitrary criteria. Who is to say what else is out there? Things that might barely recognise us as 'living' due to our comparative simplicity? Maybe 'life' is just a side effect of increasing complexity as the program attempts to overcome it's in-built tendency for entropy to always increase over time. Maybe this is what the programmer is experimenting with; how to stop the inevitable increase of entropy in a closed system.

If it is a simulation it means in real world we are all criminals and it's our punishment.

We're starting to discover that life is incredibly abundant and literally everywhere. So yes we do poorly define it, at best we have a rudimentary understanding of any subject.

Our views on reality and consciousness have been shifting over the past few years. The simulation theory has been growing traction because of it.

I don't think we'll ever have the ultimate answers that we seek. There's way too much complex intricacies that we'll never comprehend.

When I clicked I assumed this would be information from The Sun...but it was from Scientific American!

(And then The Sun.)

"Scientists say"...well, how many scientists? How reputable are they? How reputable are the institutions they're with? The brain hears the appeal to authority in "scientists say" and is prone to turn off critical and autonomous thinking. A president says a lot of stuff, too, and people believe it. Ever met any scientists? They're people with flaws, same as everyone else. They're not special, they just have specialist knowledge. I bet there's at least one thing you know that they don't, or at least one thing you do better than them, even if it's something as mundane as wiping your ass. There is no pedestal for ass-wiping, but there should be if one's method can actually further the common well-being of humanity.

I'm not saying I disagree with the concept (of the matrix, not humanitarian ass-wiping), I actually lean toward accepting it, but I think there's a lot of intentional disinformation and misinformation being spread. "Scientists say" as a lede is just the aroma of fertilizer that indicates there is bullshit involved, far more than flowers and herbs. Remember the Milgram experiments? Thirty percent of subjects didn't listen to authority but listened to themselves instead and therefore didn't feel like utter shit and suffer moral wounds. I prefer to be in the thirty percent if at all possible.

Rant over. I'm a bit ranty the past couple days, I've done a lot of typing and deleting! I didn't delete this comment. No offense intended. My bullshit defense is that I can rant all I want when The Sun is invoked as an information source. :pfff:

I feel that on time passing and I'm only thinking since the mid noughties. I find that head fucking enough how I got here and how there's all these people here that were babies a second ago. I think everyone in time experiences it to varying degrees they just hopefully don't regret it all. If it's a simulation no reason it shouldn't be able to go backwards.

"Scientists say"
It's just one scientist, an assistant professor of astronomy, who has used bayesian probability reasoning in a questionable manner to analyze a simulation argument which a philosopher made a long time ago in a paper. He even concedes that it may not be a testable or falsifiable theory, therefore not scientific.
Elon musk has also endorsed the simulation hypothesis, and I wouldn't trust anything he has to say.

I think that research on the holographic principle in astrophysics is a better way of ascertaining whether we are simulated projections or not.

Anyway, I think it's an interesting idea, but ultimately it changes nothing about the problem of suffering/evil.
Simulation or not, suffering is real.

It could have been created with the aim to see how well we problem solve as the planets we have managed to reach are lifeless but we have discovered similar planets to Earth which could have life but we could never reach them with our current technology unless they invent a stasis pod which will keep you young and alive for at least 1,736,809 years, lol this is the time it would take to travel 100 light years.

Other strange things, why create the Luna Moths, the adults don't have a mouth so it starves to death within 1 week and Mayflies, like the whiteflies of the Susquehanna River, have the shortest lifespan of any animal on Earth, just 24 hours for many species, is this natures way to feed others.

Indeed. Maybe it's a stress test to see if the program is saleable yet in the pan-dimensional god-like alien's version of Amazon. Maybe if we invent the stasis pods and get our descendants to reach Proxima Centauri then it will be ready for roll out. And maybe we are back to the people and the strange aliens living inside the giant potato. :pfff:

*This is just my opinion "The rantings of a suicidal mind" *

I have often thought of this idea that life is a simulation. We are like pawns being shuffled around for amusement. Everyone generally follows the herd mentality of being a worker drone wage slave and never questioning life. Then there are a few of us enlightened. We are called dissenters, free thinkers or insane but really we saw past the bull shit of life. Realizing life is a pointless endeavor. We toil away for nothing... everyone dies anyway. It's a rigged game from the start some are intended to be blessed and others suffer to sort of balance the system.

I was one of those free thinking dissenters who questioned life, religion, and the status quo. I believe the system marked me for suffering. I was intended to be obsolete..intend obsolescence built into the system. Then something awakens inside some of us and we gain an almost higher tier of intelligence...we cannot go back to the past naive simple worker drone life and mind because we have been awoken. We discover suicide is the way out. Suicide is how to beat the game. I'm refusing to play this rigged game anymore.

Yes, and Elon Musk said something like there's 1 in a billion chance we're in "base reality".
Even Richard Dawkins, the most atheist guy on Earth, has admitted that the simulation theory is quite interesting!

It's the only thing that makes sense to me. I think either we're in a simulation or there's really just nothing, eternal nothingness and no explanations.

I think this theory is quite good because we just gotta compare videogames from 40 years ago with videogames now! "Pong" (the two bars and ball stuff) was a popular game and now we have games quite real!!

Now, imagine videogames in 200 hundred years! We won't be able to distinguish them from reality as long as there's any kind of improvement in technology (which will probably happen).

The thing is...what's outside the simulation? Will we get the answers we seek? Maybe we're "nerfed" and that's why we can't understand the meaning of anything in this world? Who knows...!
