I'm in the boat of when you die, your brain releases some chemicals that basically make your last moments seem like forever. So it creates an afterlife of sorts for you to experience. Which is scary to me given my mental state is irrevocably damaged by taking psychiatric meds. So that makes me more terrified of death and more in pain with makes me want to ctb even more into this vicious cycle..... so yea I'm fucked

Hello, I was not even baptized myself. I think when I die everything ends, though would like to see some people in the afterlife.
Heaven and hell for me is more about the Earth rather than afterlife. Well, honestly if we are god creatures, why we suffer, why so many disabled people and people who are deprived of everything. If we are god created, then he has no heart...

Let's go with the premise that there is no god , who gets the blame for all the injustice in the world ?

No, I know what death is I don't know if there is some kind of afterlife though. I'm just scared to CTB alone, I want someone to be around.

First of all, the world itself. Somebody can say evolution, some - genetics, some - environment. So I guess the world itself. But not on 100%

I'll quote something I said in a similar thread (total atheist here):

I like the idea that we are an eventuality of this universal testing ground, here to help the universe figure itself out. For a brief time, our bits of matter are bestowed with consciousness in pursuit of that effort. Whether consciousness is just the sum of our very complex parts or something supernatural, I believe the former but who would be disappointed to find out there is something else. No matter what, we are part of something much bigger than ourselves, something beyond imagination.

You are only asking for opinions from other beliefs. I am also agnostic so I am waiting for some proof that any one of these beliefs is true. I have looked for something to believe in but not found it yet. No one will know the answer until you get to wherever you are going if you are indeed going anywhere but if you are good and kind in this life then anything that follows cant be all that bad. If nothing follows then you have lost nothing and may just have made someone else's journey easier

I was raised Christian and I'm an Atheist now. Still, the number one fear I have of ctb is that fear of hell.

As an atheist, the way that I think about death is that it's the same experience as going to sleep. Except we only know we've been to sleep because we wake up and remember. So to me, death is going to sleep and not waking up.

There is something about that notion that feels quite scary to me though, the idea that everything simply ends. Perhaps the way to deal with that is to imagine that I have a soul (perhaps my consciousness) and that when I die this is, metaphorically speaking, set free, 'scattered to the wind' - no longer constrained by the painful chains of my life. That seems to make the thought of the 'before' (the falling asleep) seem much less scary.

Many Jews don't even believe in the concept of hell. The old testament is not very clear on the subject. The new testament is not particularly clear either. It has, however, been interpreted broadly and in an almost entirely unsupported way to be eternal damnation. Fundamentalists will tell you that this is god's vision being made clearer over time. I, for one, call bullshit.

I believe God is gracious and full of mercy. I grew up Christian and though I have a problem with the way many "Christians" live their life, I still believe God is good and that He does not send people to hell for committing suicide. Most Christians teach that those who are "lost in the eyes of God"(I hate that language and wording) are destined for destruction. While I haven't lived that long yet I think I've lived long enough to know that this is just not true. God is so much more merciful and so much bigger than these "Christians" can comprehend or understand.

Well good luck to you if you end up CTB ing....it's not the standard belief, at least not of Christians of the catholic version ! My cousin is a catholic priest and he is adamant about his - only God is allowed to grant and to take life, you don't have ANY say in it ! And if you dare taking action against yourself, howerver miserable your life may be, God is going to be very very annoyed and not at all merciful...

Yea I believe these people have small minds. They want to put God in the box of their own understanding like that..

It's a long shot... but try practicing lucid dreaming? Let's say those chemicals are really just a prolonged dream state. If you were able to do lucid dreaming you can make the afterlife whatever you want it to be.

What do you mean injustice? I think some people just make bad or selfish decisions. Its not human nature to be perfect. Some people are going to do bad things, and its just the fact that they can somehow justify it to themselves. I don't believe we can blame anything else, because if you believe its them, you can't hold them accountable for their actions.

That's the irony. The psych meds I was on before let me have complete control lucid dreams and I was happy in them. Now I'm back on it and I no longer have control. And I'm terrified.

I think it's going to be beautiful to find out!
No one really knows for certain, it's all based on one belief or another.
I'm kind of thinking that whatever lies ahead is not based on a duality concept like heaven or hell, but quite possibly we realize that everything is one within itself.
Who knows...

I'm constantly torn between two feelings, it always makes me terrified of going to hell because of this, but I'm also scared about my family. Will I even care what happens when I finally die? Will I still exist in some way and have to feel my family's emotions? I'm scared. I can't keep going like this but I'm scared.
