If there was a word for homesick but so desperately so that it's an actual physical feeling of longing and yearning and love and pain of separation, I would use it.

I feel like there's probably a German compound word for that. "Fernweh" is a painful longing for someplace you've never been, "farsick" rather than "homesick."
