Is there anyone who knows just salt can kill you? Why bother with SN?

We report herein a suicide case of salt poisoning from drinking a large quantity of shoyu (Japanese soy sauce). The deceased was a 60-year-old housewife who was found dead in her bedroom by her husband. An empty 1,000 ml bottle of shoyu, which had been purchased on the day before death, was discovered in the kitchen. Macroscopically, the alimentary tract contained a yellowish-brown liquid-like material with the strong smell of shoyu, and slight lung and brain edema were noted. The 1,000 ml bottle of shoyu contained approximately 160 g of salt. Therefore, the cause of death was determined to have been salt poisoning from drinking a large quantity of shoyu.

This is oddly interesting. I had to look it up. Trying to find if there was any other health issues before hand. Physically.
that would contribute.

And how much the salt content played a role in the poison or was it fluid in the lungs.
If so would this be a drowning sensation?.

Thanks for finding this story.
Good luck.

Maybe it will be interesting. In this video described case of overdosing on soy sauce which is the same as overdosing on salt.

There are lots of reports of death following sodium overdose (usually we're talking about sodium chloride, NaCl, which is table salt). Technically, everything is toxic, but as the saying goes – "the dose makes the poison." The process by which sodium overdose kills you is essentially the direct opposite of the process by which regular drinking water (H2O) overdose kills you.

The problem with most of these ODs, and I'll address sodium in particular, is that they're highly unreliable and prone to failure as well as lasting damage. The most likely scenario is that you just vomit whatever you ingest – your body can recognize you're ingesting something it's not equipped to handle and expel it. High-sodium drinks are also prone to causing loose stools (hence why some people believe in drinking salt water as a "cleanse").

If it doesn't kill you, it can easily cause coma or a vegetative state, as your brain swells considerably from the excess sodium and gets damaged beyond repair but continues to function enough to keep you breathing or your heart beating until they get you hooked up to a ventilator (worst case scenario, in my opinion).

Please don't think sodium overdose is a good way to go based on a single case report. It's painful, unreliable and can cause lasting effects if you don't succeed.

I tried a Celtic salt colon cleanse and found it to be really uncomfortable. It was a once-and-done experience for me!

I want to perish at sea, therefore I'd almost certainly drink seawater.

Now that I'm reminded of that revolting salt taste, I may need to try a another method.

Imagine police coming to your house to confiscate your soy sauce... 🥲😂

On a more serious note here is another case on PubMed: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21315305/

I suspect this would be rather slow, potentially painful and hard to replicate case by case therefore creating a cookie cutter regimen may prove difficult. That being said, certainly interesting and delicious but likely also as dangerous as any other OD where extreme quantities of something are required.
