  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

I was wondering if there is any risk with writing delayed emails that may be read by some sort of AI prior to sending, which could tip of authorities to your plan. I guess using something like ProtonMail instead of Gmail would likely mitigate this risk, but just curious if anyone has heard of plans being foiled due to such an issue, or am I just being unnecessarily paranoid?

One big risk is that ctb may be postponed, which happens for many reasons- or that an attempt won't work.

If you use an encrypted system and delay the send date you can delete the draft or change the send date. Using incognito or private mode will also assist in keeping your letter safe until its supposed to be sent

I have a draft stored in my gmail for nearly two years now. It contains a flat pdf (so you cannot interact with the text or anything) with some directives for my family. You could also put your text in a jpg for example. I don't know if this is the best way of doing this. My reasoning is that AI would not be able to scan the pdf. Nothing has happened in the time that I had the email in my drafts.

I plan to make it so that the email will be sent about twelve hours after I would ctb. If I back out or change my mind I can stop the email being sent.

I wouldn't. Imagine you survive, are unconscious and in the meantime the recipients receive the mails. People might call the police and you end up in psych. ward.

That's good unless you have a failed attempt and are involuntarily hospitalized- maybe a week's delay or so could cover for this.

That's something to consider. You can set the delay to any time you want of course. Personally I wouldn't want my family to find my decomposing body. And I also have cats that need to be taken care of. So I guess everyone will have different considerations.

Just in case putting out extra food and water could be a good idea, but the other consideration is personal judgement. After most types of ctb people don't usually look good, but I suppose there are exceptions. For me once I'm gone someone will just have to deal with that, it's a billionth of the pain I've been through.

I have basically nothing/no one that depends on me. Nor do I have a job or other obligations. My friends and family have gotten accustomed to me not responding for days/weeks, so it would probably be weeks or whenever someone complained of some stench in my apartment building until anyone found me, hence the desire for some sort of not for someone to come clean up the mess. Would definitely delay with sufficient time to prevent being found too soon. Makes it somewhat comforting knowing that I wouldn't really be "missed" per se.
