Revenge on manager, will I get caught?

I am serving notice period. My last working day is on 3rd October. I asked for an early release on 26th of September as I have finished the project and there are no dependencies. I had few personal issues to resolve for which I had to go to hometown.
My manager being the asshole he is isn't allowing this. I asked for work from home for a week, he didn't allow that either. He even said to me, don't do anything just come and sit in office.
I have access to some of the company data stored on server . I am planning to delete that on the last day. Will I get caught if I do this? Can they detect if I did that?
Please advise.

It's going to be very obvious to investigate you when this happens on your last day or even close to when you leave--you're already on their radar at this moment. They can tell who is accessing computers and when and depending on the job, they may even have cameras that can see you in the office and doing this around the time all of the files go missing.

You risk serious consequences by doing this, from a lawsuit to criminal penalties--massive fines, jail time. This isn't worth it at all, you can easily ruin your life.

Also, you're not just fucking over your manager here, but the entire company, every single employee who works there will be affected.

Do you live somewhere where garnishing your wages is legal? What happens if you do not show up?

Also, if your IT department is somewhat competent yes they will know who did it and then the company could press charges for destroying records.

they'd 100% suspect it's you and would definetly be able to track that back to you. don't do it. you risk a lot

edit: it's likely they have backups so it could not even affect the company in a meaningful way, and youd get in trouble anyway

Absolutely terrible idea. Systems almost always record the user through logs. And most likely there are backups so they can restore the data.

You are understandably annoyed, but don't risk your own future to hurt someone else. Just ride out your time and go onto the next thing without having to deal with legal consequences or a bad reputation

It's understandable to be angry--your manager's being a dick. But I'm glad you're able to understand that doing that will only hurt you.

I won't get experience and relieving letter. I have worked here for two years.

you're making the right decision friend. I know how much badly treated employees can resent an difficult boss, but the risks for messing with their files is too great. I admit I've had fantasies about the same thing, but the best revenge is really just to move on and never think about your boss or the job you left again.
