It's only when you do it any earlier that others get irked because you are expected to be in a "career" and wage your whole life.

You can't make everyone happy. If you can afford to be a NEET then do it.

That's because they are jealous of you, that you don't have to slave away your life in a job to earn a wage.

Earned it we have...

They've already paid in to the system. The poor sods will probably drop down dead before they get back what they paid in. Their hard earned money will go to fund the new generation... If they can afford to retire at all that is. I've seen one or two pensioners working shop jobs. Poor things. That will be me if I don't CTB. There's no pension for me being freelance and I'm not good enough financially to save. CTB is certainly preferable to that. I've already done 10 gruelling years in it.

I wonder how they feel about it though. Imagine you've towed the line all your life. You've worked hard and paid your taxes, in the hopes that, when you are too old to work, the state will have enough money to take care of you. But then, you get told that your hard earned tax money went to fund the younger generation's education and- they aren't willing to work- so- there isn't the money to look after you in old age. Personally, I can see why the older generations get frustrated with the younger ones. Especially if they were forced to fight in a war too. Of course they're going to tell us how easy we have it in comparison and- how lazy we are. But then I suppose ultimately- I do actually agree with you that they shouldn't have had children with the expectation they would just comply to wage slavery.

While I do respect your reasons for being NEET, it's not all together fair to call someone who has slaved away and likely broken their mind and body in the process for 50+ years a NEET. Those poor sods are exhausted most likely. They're not working because they might have just about scraped enough money together to survive on, they're claiming back what they already paid in or, they're simply too old and ill to work. Some actually want to work though- amazingly enough. I know a few people in their mid 70's who still work from choice! But, no, I'd argue that their reasons for being NEET are very different to a youngster.

Yeah but society likes to pretend they earned it.

when someone retires and take money for retirement, it is literally money they have already earned. Different countries have different systems, but usually it is the case that as they worked, a percentage of their pay has been put aside for them by law/legislation, such that they can access that in their old age.

It's not that society is jealous, in fact they don't care, but they don't want people to be content so they seduce them to accumulate wealth because any alternative lifestyle is useless consumption, system needs to grow.

This is a thing that baffled me even as a child: How older people would always talk about "Only x more years then I can retire", how they all were looking forward to not do the thing that they did for 40+ years and how it is expected of me to also do something like that until I am old so I can "earn" doing nothing in the end.

It's just the concept of money? Because they need money to have food when they are hungry, to have access to medication when they are sick…etc etc?

It's basically an investment, you work, u make money, u put that money aside, and when there is enough to last you the rest of your life you stop. If you made money earlier, then perhaps you may choose to retire earlier.

Doing nothing is a luxury many unfortunately cannot afford, until they can, and for some unfortunately it is quite late into their life.

And I don't think retired ppl "do nothing", they are trying to reach a point where they have enough money to sustain the life style they are happy with, so then perhaps they can do the things they've always wanted to do, what ever it may be. I am sure everyone wants to reach that point earlier rather than later, and society has made it increasingly harder for people to reach that point, even when they have worked all their lives, which is very tragic.

There's no retirement for young ppl anymore. The age is currently 68 in my country and will go up even more.
They (the system) even took the last wagie cope away.

I'm somehow a retired old NEET although I'm not even 50 yet. I'm an involuntary NEET, but I also reject becoming a wage slave - I won't profit from it neither short, mid nor long term. Not necessarily a happy life but also not too bad to just end it.

I know all of these things, I just described how it felt like to me when I was a child. I should have written my post better.
