  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

i've seen a number of threads about the afterlife and asking if it's real, but not one that honed in what i'm asking specifically, so if you'd like to share i would love to know the following:

  • what religion (if any) were you raised with
  • what religion (if any) do you identify with now
  • how does that affect your decision to ctb

for me, i was raised in the mormon/lds cult. i would like to say that i identify as atheist now, but i do fear an afterlife.

in mormonism, there isn't exactly a hell but something called "outer darkness" which is reserved for people who have witnessed god and denied him. heaven is broken up into three tiers, with the highest being paradise and the lowest basically being another earth. suicide is viewed as murder but is judged on an individual basis by god. (although the severity differs between who is prophet at the time) according to a number of studies (which you can google as 'mormon suicide statistics'), suicide of mormons and especially teens is high, especially when considering the lgbt community.

My parents weren't religious. But they believe and hold customs of the catholic church. They never talked about God to me. When I was 10 , I decided on my own to visit a church and do some catechism. That is where I learned about Jesus and so on. I myself like my parents don't follow a religion. I am not an atheist either. I believe there is God, I just do not understand him and my mind lacks the ability to ever do that as a human. I think God is forgiving and those who ctb will be welcomed regardless because he knows his children pain. That is just my insight.

I went to a very Christian school although neither one of my parents was religious...bit odd. I'm not religious but I believe in an afterlife. It provides a positive dimension to my ctb because I so believe that there's somewhere better.

I was raised as a Jehovah's witness, so I definitely understand cult indoctrination. They teach that eternal oblivion is the fate for nonbelievers, which is more merciful than most religions. I am currently a mystical nihilist and skeptic, and I have no clue what to expect in the afterlife. I hope nothingness, if that is possible. But I also fear a bad afterlife quite a bit, because one terrible place (earth) has already been confirmed to exist.

I was raised in Christianity. I now identify with that movement (Christendom is not a religion).
It affects me in many ways. From what is in the afterlife, to waking up in the morning and thinking about God or the end of my life.
I didn't know Mormons did so much CTB. I'm going to look into it

I was grew up and became Christian on my own. I now believe in a mix of Gnosticism and science. I think there is too many people not thinking critically. Christianity is good but it raises too many questions for me. For example, why does God say he loves us and then let us all suffer? And the people who believe in a biblical God, many of them are not much better than atheists morally speaking. Why would they go to heaven over something trivial? But I cannot deny the spiritual experiences that many people and I also have. So I think truth is in between.

For my CTB I am not worried. I think if there is an powerful God he will understand, and if there is not an all powerful God nobody can force me to reincarnate
