because if it does, then it kinda invalidates that method of testing a little bit.
i know i should just buy a real test...
only problem is i'm terrible with numbers, and i suspect it involves a lot of keeping track of numbers
(how many ML this, how many grams SN that...) you know?
like i'm really really bad with stuff like that.

and that's on top of having to somehow magically obtain meto, which seems very difficult

The aquarium type tests? I think they measure specific things- like nitrate, nitrite etc. So- I don't imagine regular salt would show positive. It was school days I studied chemistry though so, who knows?

As for how accurate they are, I don't know. My SN has been stored a couple of years now. Unopened. My concern is- D-Day comes and it shows negative or, not very potent. Do I still risk it? I've got one of those finger pricker things to do the blood test too. I'm so squemish. I think I'd struggle to cut myself.

when you drop blood on SN, it turns brown immediately, is what i mean

So I've heard. Pesumably because it's changing the red blood cells so that they are less able to carry oxygen. I do remember that de-oxygenated blood is darker. I've no idea if salt produces the same effect. I guess the main thing though is that there is a change in colour. It seems to suggest something has changed. Again though- I'm not scientific. I don't know that it proves it will work.

No. The mechanisms by which death is brought about, hypernatremia from HUGE AMOUNTS of sodium chloride, and methemoglobinemia from sodium nitrite, are entirely different.

right. i just meant if normal salt also makes blood turn brown instantly.
maybe i should have rephrased it

SN turns blood into a muddy brown color because the nitrite ion oxidises the iron in hemoglobin from its 2+ state to its 3+ state, which converts hemoglobin into methemoglobin (MetHb) (which is brown).

Normal (NaCl) salt cannot oxidize hemoglobin so if you add some of it to your blood it won't do anything because no MetHb will be formed.

If normal salt could form MetHb then saline drips would be capable of killing you.

lol ok, calm tf down man, english isn't my fkcn first language. take a chill pill boy, or whatever you are
Dude, I think you should take a chill pill boy. I'm a man, btw. I'll leave the jury out on you. And who's not calm here? I answered your initial question honestly and straightforwardly, and even included rudimentary explanation as to why the two "salts" are not the same. Instead of taking that information and doing your own research to verify what I said, you decided to post again, pretty much reiterating what you said in your original post as if I didn't understand your original question, even though I answered your question with an immediate "No" in my first response. As far as my second response, do you see any exclamation marks, or ALL capital letters, in my response? I merely said NO again, with NO only being capitalized for emphasis.

Honestly, I'm not even sure of the point of this posting. Are you planning on taking gobs of table salt for some reason? CTB? You could have answered your own question simply by mixing a little of your blood with a small amount of sodium chloride to see if the effect is the same as that of SN.

And with that I wish you a good night.
