When I read news about suicides in law enforcement, I always think back to an old conversation with a carabinieri sergeant. I remember him telling me about colleagues who had committed suicide with their service weapon. I told him that it's not so easy to kill yourself even with firearms. He replied, 'Well, they're trained men.' This made me realize that technique is everything in succeeding, or at least it's very relevant. In the end, carabinieri don't carry high-caliber weapons, but 9mm pistols. The colleagues he was talking about all died instantly.
