Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

I know that VSED is highly discouraged because of the length of time it takes to actually produce any meaningful results and the psychological compulsions to give in to the desire to eat and drink, that isn't the point of this question. What I'm really wondering is, if refeeding syndrome is so lethal, why isn't a 1-2 week fast with only water consumption used to trigger ketosis/autophagy and then eating a high carb meal at the end of those weeks used to subsequently trigger hypophosphataemia and induce heart failure? I don't know much of the chemical science behind it aside from being triggered by electrolyte imbalance (particularly phosphate) or if a western diet high in processed foods makes this difficult to achieve but it seems fairly fatal and not at all among the worst methods I've seen. Beyond the will needed to make it 2 weeks without food, it's one of the main reason anorexia nervosa is so fatal. Is there a reason beyond lack of testing, understanding, or documented cases that refeeding syndrome isn't discussed more frequently?

now I kinda want to research this. If I had to guess, one of the reasons why it isn't considered often (that you didn't already mention) is how much the method would vary from person to person. Since so many factors can affect how quickly someone goes into starvation or how severely they'll be affected by refeeding syndrome, it would be hard to reliably pull off compared to something like hanging.
