If that was a gore viewing place I wonder if it has to do with the New Zealand shooting video that was going around and the various state mouthpieces who have commented on the video and sharing it specifically.

Reddit understandably doesn't want to have a section of their site dedicated to giving people easy access to violent propaganda from islamist, cartels or fascists. It's not their responsibility to host them, and their decision to moderate the content of their website does not infringe on anyone's freedom of speech. If you live in America, there is no law preventing you from buying your own domain and hosting (almost) whatever you'd like, including the videos that reddit has removed from their site.

Reddit is just so stupid in the subs they do ban and don't ban. It likes to claim it is the home of free speech and a place where anything and everything can be discussed, yet nearly every good subreddit about mental illnesses (I.e. r/ProED or r/selfharmscars) are banned.

I am not saying they had no right to do it.Its just unnecessary in my mind.Nobody tried to post propaganda there,it was a bunch of users posting videos they found, half of them from liveleak.Sure the content was harsh, but a lot of videos were interesting and educational(yes i can say that).I was searching for the suicide videos to get a glimpse of what can happen.
Nothing was gained from this.Users will just move on the various gore/death sites there are.

If Reddit wants to become a place where people go to post selfies and food recipes,i will go somewhere else.

It's directly related to the New Zealand shooting. Reddit just found an excuse to silence more people. Free speech alternatives to Reddit exist

But they are doing their bidding by spreading the videos, even if they're intentions are "benign". Reddit would make themselves complicit in doing that if they didn't take action. The people who have an intense desire to see the video will find a way to do so, but I can say for sure that the shooter will reach out to fewer people after this.

The only person they silenced is the shooter. Clips of people dying is hardly free speech, and people are still free to discuss the video and the incident in other subreddits.

Because taxation is not actually voluntary, even though the people have been conditioned to accept it and see it as legit. It redistributes income through force instead of voluntarism.

It's about time. Reddit is very anti-suicide and banned quite a few suicide-related subreddits, but for some reason left r/watchpeopledie and r/gore untouched. It's only right that those subreddits would get swept up in the flurry of censorship as well.

Reddit is a cess pool of garbage. I understand people don't "like" some trains of thought, some people like hillary, some like trump. But it's become quite obvious that places like reddit and the MSM are just echo chambers of attacking anyone that thinks trump or anyone who disagrees with any leftist thought is anti-lgbt, islamophobic, antisemitic, literally hitler, etc.

It's unreasonable the amount of attacks that have been done on Trump, not that he is a perfect president, I never knew about the guy until he was shoved in my face by every news outlet, reddit included with at least 50% of the top posts being about how terrible trump is and how he is causing WW3. I was always skeptic of the MSM and what they say because they are really the enemy of the people so when I researched Trump myself I found nothing but lies being said about him (He isn't the only one they lie about, but he is a target and it's not in defense of all of what he does).

This isn't a pro-trump post I'm making, it's that the news and social media are complete bullshit who attack anybody that does not fit their narrative and Trump has clearly stated he is their enemy and does not fear them so this is their attack on him and I hope he continues calling them the fake media they are. Nobody has been this hated by the media unless they've exposed them for the corrupted industry they are, reddit is no exception.

I'm sorry, but your 'anyone who hits a nerve must be saying something that is true but uncomfortable' analysis is kinda shit. How about actually providing specific examples of what you believe is unreasonable outrage, overreaction and lying? It should be an easy task if "nothing but lies [is] being said about him".

How do you expect people to react when their country is led by a president with extreme views that drastically differ from those held by the majority of the country? Should they shut up and be quiet about the fact that Trump has dismissed the serious threat of global warming, withdrawn from the Paris climate accords and reopened coal mines, in fear of becoming an echo chamber?

Trump didn't even win the popular vote. A figure as polarising as Hillary managed to secure it with a margin of almost three million votes.

Trump's travel ban explicitly targets majority-Muslim countries. The purpose of the ban is purportedly to prevent terrorists from entering the country, yet Saudi-Arabia, the country that 15 out of 19 of the 9/11 hijackers were citizens of, is not affected by the ban. In fact, none of the attackers originated from any of the seven countries covered by the travel ban. Nor did the Boston marathon bombers. If this is sincerely an attempt at preventing terrorist attacks, Trump and his administration must believe that all Muslims, across borders, are a threat to national security just by virtue of their religion. How is this not Islamophobic?

His attempt at reintroducing the ban on trans-people in the army is arguably anti-LGBT. Even though it probably is true that trans people are a greater financial burden than other soldiers, is it not problematic to exclude an entire demographic of people from being in control of the collective weaponry of the US? One of the arguments used to defend the second amendment, and which I am somewhat sympathetic towards, is that an armed population is a deterrent against tyrants. A lot has changed since the 18th century, and the firepower of the military has far surpassed that which can be attained by stockpiling small-arms. Therefore it's crucial that the diversity of the general population is reflected in the military.

Yeah, I just learned that WPD and Gore got banned. I think things are going to get worse as social media platforms look for excuses and events to push/justify banning and censoring certain content. I do agree that alternatives to reddit is the best solution for us since there is less censorship in those places.

See, you focused and became triggered the moment "Trump" was mentioned. The post itself is not meant to be in his defense, but in no way is he such an incompetent president or someone that needs to be so viciously attacked. I won't defend him as the best president or even as a great one, but the attacks are filled with lies and slander. The point is that the MSM hates anyone who tells the world about the truth of their corruption and lies and Trump has attacked them and told his citizens that they are fake news.

You can't tell me that Trump has never done a good thing in his entire presidency, look at his wars-oh wait, he hasn't started a single war, the only president since Reagan, he has pulled troops back home, he has settled things with north korea peacefully it seems. I won't say there aren't bad things about him, but have you ever once seen something positive said about trump on the MSM or a social news outlet? Because I sure haven't and that is extremely suspicious. Look at Obama, literally days after receiving his nobel peace prize he murdered countless innocent civilians after ordering them to be bombed. Yet somehow Trump is worse? He doesn't even have a war death count like Obama, yet he is somehow "literally hitler".

My issues are not that they aren't speaking of Trump as the messiah, it's that they have doubled down on slandering him ever since the 2016 elections, instead of backing off and giving him some form of credit, anywhere, but they refuse. They want this man dead, they want his name slandered, they want his presidency legacy tarnished, he called them out on their bullshit and they replied in full. To say he has not done a single thing correctly is absolutely wrong, and it's very clear with the way he is portrayed.

I have never once seen something positive of Trump on the front page of reddit ever, which to me screams an echo chamber of slandering on the man when it's very obvious he has done good, maybe not everything that you wanted or was promised(yet), but he has done good things in his presidency and I respect him for it. If you look at how much faith people have in the media it's obvious they are panicked right now because nobody believes in them, and Trump has told the world they shouldn't be trusted so they are losing money after being exposed.

How else am I supposed to construe your attack on the media other than as a defense of Trump? You are saying that they are relentlessly making up lies about him, yet you fail to provide any examples.

Take a peek outside of the realm of American politics, and you'll find that Trump and the Republican party in general is incredibly extreme by international standards, at least in the West. The left doesn't hate him because of a few minor disagreements on insignificant issues; they hate him because his worldview and his values are entirely incompatible with theirs. His failure to act on the threat of global warming will have a noticeable impact on the lives of billions of people around the world. Should they just say "well, he's uninterested in actually improving our quality of life, but at least he shook Kim Jong-un's hand"?

The few minor positive things Trump may have done are completely overshadowed by the terrible policies I mentioned above, such as his indifference towards the disastrous effects global warming will have. His (perhaps futile and mostly symbolic) efforts to improve relations with North Korea are not representative of his foreign policy in general, nor is it something that other Presidents wouldn't have done. To think that a Democratic president would start a war so soon after the Iraq war is ridiculous, especially for Sanders, who was Reddit's favorite candidate in the primaries by far. The withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and Iraq started prior to his presidency, the latter was finalized years before Trump assumed power. And if he is really determined to lead a policy of peace and reconciliation, why does he attempt to revert the progress of the Iran deal?

Obama wasn't a great president either, he was in my opinion as shit as any president of the last century, but at least he didn't run for president on a platform of jailing his political opponents, ignoring climate change, violating human rights conventions in the "war on terror", etc. He is somewhat guilty of the latter two, and he should be and is being criticized for it, even on Reddit, but he didn't neglect global warming to the same degree and as unashamedly as Trump is. Remember, the left that you see on Reddit is comprised of a large and diverse spectrum of views. While they are all United in their hatred of Trump, their attitudes towards former Democratic Presidents and towards Hillary are widely different.

Also, /r/the_Donald has over 700000 subscribers.

The problem with reddit is the subs are designed to create echo chambers anyway. The whole site is a long list of echo chambers. So you got the front page with politics subs that are basically moderated by Democrats staff, blaming Trump for every disease on the world.
And then you got /r/Donald where they would defend him no matter what he did.Its a shitshow.

I'm not advocating for any political party or politician, but I agree with your general criticism of the media's bias. Social media is even worse as it encourages the belief that whatever perspective is put forward most loudly or most frequently is true or best while offering people a platform to blast our opinions anonymously and unaccountably. Humans.
