I've just turned 21 a little more than a week ago. It was a rather somber birthday, getting older was never a thing I looked forward to after turning 16. The legal age of majority in most of the world is 18, but many people silently agree that 18-20 year olds are still kids really. 21 is when you start being an adult in everyone's eyes. I have no accomplishments under my belt, I dropped out of high school, live in a motel, can't drive, no wife, no kids, no friends even. One of the things that get me the most is the lack of education as well as never having a significant other. The way I see it, if I start a 5 year plan then my life might be on track, but I'll be 26 then. I can't lie to myself and say that I'll be able to live with that. Seeing other people around me, much younger, doing so much better in life, having degrees, etc. It hurts. Realizing that the walls are closing in is strange for me.

I can definitely relate to this. People say every day is a new chance to start fresh but I know it is not easy to just forget the past, and even harder to forgive yourself for the past. Unfortunately the thing to do is just start even if you don't feel ready, because you will never feel ready. But don't worry, I haven't started anything either and I can't seem to commit to anything. I just hear you and really relate to this. I wish you good luck, health and happiness and thank you for writing this.

Degrees are not everything, you can do well without degrees! Why care so much about "others" whether they are doing better or not in their lives, regarding degrees/job and so. You can do well if you believe in you. I'm more than double your age and I've got no degrees either and I did very well for most of my life, but in the end it failed, hence now here on SaSu. But I can say: I lived my life. I guess many people in my age with degrees can't say that from their lives.

Hello, 20 year old here. In all honesty, I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna stop being a kid until 25, since that's give or take the age our brain fully develops. Still, if you feel your an adult, then by all means feel like an adult, it's just that despite my life having more responsibilities I don't really feel any different from when I was 16.

Anyways, I'm sorry you feel so dissatisfied with your life. The world, while random as always, doesn't make it easy to move up status wise. It also never really focuses on the people it abandons, and there might be a general lack of sympathy from other "humans".

Im not sure if you're planning to die soon, but assuming ur intending to stick around for s bit, I'd advise you to just consider viewing your current life status as a break period. The worlds a bitch, and the reality is that it doesn't stop spinning for anyone, but sometimes people need to just freeze, especially thoughts plagued by troubles and misery.

Though we might not ever be able to view life in a positive way, it doesn't mean that it doesn't change. Shit happens, even if it's mostly worse there's still a dice roll something good comes along.

I'm truly sorry for the shit the world has pushed upon you. I wish you the best in whatever comes next, be it continuing life, or meeting death.
