We all roll for our base abilities from the moment of conception. Some people get SSR intellect and physical abilities all at once while others are stuck with a huge pile of trash.

Then we roll for our circumstances, from country of birth, parents, and the people we meet in our lives. Some people keep rolling the abusive relationships or just get murdered. A select few in the top percent of the curve hit every SSR along the way, rich parents, a country with a growing economy, all the right connections at the right times, and they really make it.

There is a pity system, of course. If you roll bad enough, you just die, whether it was because you kept failing to roll a functional job or got unlucky with the people you met or the place you happened to be.

In the last couple hundred years or so the community finally came together and started adding some better pity systems. You can change servers and try again by immigrating to a different region where they have better variant rules. Welfare systems make sure that those who keep rolling badly can still continue to live.

But of course the worst part of this shit game is that patches are written and implemented by those who high roll the hardest. So naturally, there is an entire group within the community that oppose these pity systems, since they didn't need them.
