Thought this looked like a fun test to share. What type of reader are you?

The Purple Reader is The Unbound Innovator—a bold, unconventional thinker who thrives on experimental storytelling and genre-defying narratives. They read to challenge norms, stretch their imagination, and fuel radical creativity. After finishing a book, they want to feel intellectually awakened and creatively invigorated, as if they've glimpsed a new way of seeing the world.

I'm a green reader.
Grounded and purpose-driven, Green Readers view literature as a toolkit for navigating life. They aren't drawn to abstract or poetic writing for its own sake—what matters is whether a book offers wisdom they can use. They want stories and insights that illuminate real-world challenges and help them make sense of the complexity around them. They value clarity, structure, and strong logic. They often find themselves reading with a pen in hand, underlining ideas they'll come back to again and again. Green Readers don't just read for entertainment—they read to grow.

That sounds about right as all of my books consist of non-fiction & classroom style textbooks on human anatomy, the mind, and psychiatry.

I'm a dumb reader. If there is no dialogue in more than two pages I will get physically pissed at the book.

You are a Purple Reader

So…What is a Purple READER?

The Purple Reader is The Unbound Innovator—a bold, unconventional thinker who thrives on experimental storytelling and genre-defying narratives. They read to challenge norms, stretch their imagination, and fuel radical creativity. After finishing a book, they want to feel intellectually awakened and creatively invigorated, as if they've glimpsed a new way of seeing the world.

The kind of Books you read are…

The kind of books you read are wild, unconventional, and impossible to categorize. You're drawn to stories that break rules—narratives that twist form, blur genres, or leap through time and space without warning. Traditional plot arcs don't impress you nearly as much as originality, voice, and sheer creative risk. You love authors who challenge assumptions, upend expectations, and invite you into strange, brilliant new worlds. Whether it's fiction that feels like a fever dream or nonfiction that dares to imagine entirely new futures, you crave ideas that crack open your thinking. Your bookshelf isn't safe—it's a playground for the wildly inventive and the beautifully bizarre.

Your FICTION PREFERENCES

  • Experimental and postmodern novels
  • Surreal or dreamlike fables
  • Books with nonlinear structures or shifting perspectives
  • Genre mashups and speculative fiction with a philosophical edge
  • Literary fiction that breaks form or plays with language

Your Non-FICTION PREFERENCES

  • Avant-garde essays and unconventional memoirs
  • Speculative cultural criticism
  • Futurist manifestos and radical theory
  • Philosophy or psychology that explores abstract or fringe ideas
  • Books on creativity, innovation, and alternative ways of thinking

I got Red but reading through some of the other answers here, it is pretty one-dimensional. For example, Orange is big on world building and that is extremely important to me. I like action but I also want deep lore or I just will not care about the characters and world.

I think I am more about writing style and story structure. I will be equally attracted to high fantasy, modern thriller, or even a bit of romance if I am given a good amount of detail about the world and characters in it.

Interesting quiz. I will have to see if anyone gets yellow or blue and read those descriptions.

tied between blue and purple, but honestly blue suits me better.

The Blue Reader is introspective and reflective, drawn to narratives that explore the deep, quiet complexities of the human soul. They love books that invite contemplation, offering thoughtful insights and philosophical depth. For them, reading is an act of self-discovery, providing serenity and clarity as they uncover profound truths about life and themselves. They prefer literary works that gently unravel emotional and existential questions, leaving them feeling enriched and deeply connected.
You seek books that invite contemplation and inner reflection. Stories that gently probe the depths of the human spirit captivate you, and you cherish narratives that reveal hidden truths or philosophical insights. You find joy and comfort in beautifully crafted prose that encourages you to pause, think, and understand life's profound mysteries.

Your FICTION PREFERENCES

  • Literary fiction with richly drawn characters
  • Reflective novels exploring personal growth and emotional depth
  • Poetic stories that delicately unravel human experiences
  • Quiet yet powerful narratives that offer insight and self-awareness

Your Non-FICTION PREFERENCES

  • Thought-provoking memoirs and personal essays
  • Works exploring philosophy, spirituality, and existential questions
  • Books that offer meditative insights into life's complexities
  • Essays that inspire deep introspection

RED READER (that is IF I read, last book almost a year ago)

You don't just read stories—you live them. You crave intensity, high stakes, and stories that grip you from the first page to the last. Red Readers are fearless, bold, and driven by a relentless desire for adventure and raw emotion.

Your ideal books are the kind that make your pulse race and your heart pound. You love stories that immerse you in danger, passion, and triumph—narratives that feel like a rush of adrenaline from beginning to end. Whether it's a fast-paced thriller or a tale of survival against the odds, you're drawn to stories where the stakes are sky-high and failure is not an option.

I clicked "Probably would not read" for almost everything. It said purple, but it was by a tiny margin.

Are all those actual novel synopses? I'm pretty sure one of them is The Da Vinci Code.

I mean, yeah. It's just a shitty internet quiz. The results are going to be vague to allow for the Barnum effect to kick in. It's the same shit that you see when it comes to things like astrology.

I know that, but I think this was more focused on genres of books, and my point was I don't necessarily care about the genre, I care more about the writing style when it comes to which books I actually like.
