  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

It would be nice to have a thread with some quick rationalizations behind suicide, especially ones that could be utilized to be at peace with your decision and even ultimately overcome SI as well.

"Death is already coming, you are just facilitating it."
"Don't get caught up in your ego, you are insignificant. Many people have gone before you and will go after you. The people you will hurt as a result of your suicide will learn to live on."

There was one quote that talked about how people are so caught up in the void that comes after death but never think about the void that preceded life. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it put me at ease.

Everyone is and will be dead sure.

I mean there are thousand dumb ways to die, I don't think rational suicide is comparable to it.

Preventing someone from committing suicide is not saving their lives, but simply prolonging it, and oftentimes prolonging their suffering.
It is not an altruistic or heroic act to force someone to live.

"Man exists. For him it is not a question of wondering whether his presence in the world is useful, whether life is worth the trouble of being lived. These questions make no sense. It is a matter of knowing whether he wants to live and under what conditions."

One of the things I think about is this, from the alarming rate of hate crimes, rape, murder, corruption increasing, at this point either you suicide or a big chance you'll be killed. Living in the US, poc especially woc are literally just walking around waiting to be killed. Always having to be on guard is not a way to live. Either we can chose death on our own terms, or someone will brutally facilitate it. Be safe everyone.

In principle, we cannot commit suicide unless our name is Connor MacLeod and we use a guillotine.

I bet a lot of serial killers and rapists would have offed themselves before they started hurting others, if they had the option. Suicide prevention forces people with mental anguish to live on, and I can see that leading to dark places.

Here is my argument for promortalism, efilism, antinatalism, and negative utilitarianism.

If you are experiencing any one state of tranquility, be it pleasure, dreamless sleep, happiness, or nonexistence, you are not being deprived of any other tranquil state, so these values could be seen as 0 on a number scale. Experiencing anything less than pure tranquility at all times would be time spent in negative utility, which are states such as desire, pain, need, or suffering, which could be seen as negative values as less than 0, all the way down to hell. Therefore, the goal of our existence should be to minimize net negative utility, which would render suicide the most rational decision for an individual in almost all instances.

I believe that wanting suicide is the rational response to seeing life for what it really is. There is no point, meaning or purpose to existence, life is completely unnecessary and by staying alive we are just delaying our inevitable death. Humans suffer for decades all for the sake of it just to die eventually and I see no point to staying alive when instead I could be peacefully not existing. There is nothing negative about being dead, death is the absence of everything and as long as someone stays alive there is the chance of things getting much worse. To die would prevent this and I see leaving this world as being the best possible thing. The dead cannot suffer, only the living can so therefore non existence is ideal and it will always be preferable to living for me.

No ego here, don't need rationalizations, my own reasons for CTB'ing are clear....and now with my brother(as he told me yesterday) losing his battle with lung cancer, my own final destination is getting closer

I would 100% take that bet, because I think most of those scumbags are the ones who try the hardest to stay alive.
