while not written books, any comic/manga made by Junji Ito is incredibly compelling. His stories tackle all kinds of horror, specially psychological and body horror, while being filled with heaps of symbolism. I'd personally recommend Uzumaki or his adaptation of frankenstein.

His darkest and arguably most psychological book I would say is his adaptation of No Longer Human, mind if you are feeling extremely down, or have a particularly increased desire to CTB, I would steer well away as some of the ideas presented are incredibly dark and twisted, not to mention, based off true events and experiences of the original author.

P.s. he also has a short netflix series worth snooping
