So roughly a month ago at the start of the weekend I bought ropes to hang myself with and made a critical error and judgement and messaged people saying I was going to CTB (not the term I used) - this will never happen again. This led to an involuntarily psych ward visit of almost a month with frankly unbelievably lazy doctors and nurses. I was literally told the goal isn't to make you better just to "stabilize" you. Short visits with an uncaring doctor and a hospital an hour away. Oh and I got (stay of) committed... So that's real special. I hope to never again be back... Nothing changed for me. My life isn't magically better, no wisdom gained, just more of the same...

I got put in for a 72-hour hold, turned into a week. One of the worst, and most wasted, weeks of my life!

It was extremely frustrating for me as a former medical student who knows how you should act... when my doctor couldn't answer questions on my chart, barely spoke to me other than to ask a "you better yet?", nurses couldn't be asked to open up the lounge so we had something to do. Talking to us about our issues nah we'd rather sit on our ass and pretend you don't exist. Hello nurse ratched. People here genuinely care.

Tell me about it. My 72 hour hold turned into almost a month.

Yeah its just a bunch of people going through the motions, following useless fucking procedures. Their only goal is to prolong our suffering as long as possible. It's fucking disgusting, sick, twisted. Fuck the government, fuck doctors, fuck politicians, fuck pro lifers

It's an inhumane treatment of people who just want to leave this world for their own personal reasons causing them so much more agony and suffering. CTBing is a human right and that must be respected.

I think reasons why matter and if you can communicate knowledge and lack of rashness in the decision yeah probably has some merit. It's allowed in some cases It's a bit of juggling act to exclude/include etc... probably should have a standard where you meet with a psychiatrist over a period of time, communicate why see what's fixable/not fixable, if meds make sense, things like finality is understood etc... Particularly if psychiatrists/programs dont make you better as in the US I struggle to see how they would do so considering they out right say they dont and they arent willing to create communities for those that need it. If after the time has completed then you can CTB humanely, painlessly, and without risk. Simply put either people need to put in the work OR let people CTB. You can't punish them for failing in your duty to society. Pick one either do the hard work or do the next best thing and take away people's suffering.
They don't give a shit.
To be honest if I've learned anything through my struggles it's no one does.

Its terrible how psych wards are like this. They only exist to give the public reassurance that they care even though they couldn't care less.. they don't even try to help us. This reminds me of the book called 1980. (the things im comparing aren't the exact same but i can still see a similarity between them.) In 1980, its a crazy society, run by a very corrupt government and they taught the society to act a certain way and any way else is wrong. A few people, think differently (citizens) and hide the fact that they're like this. Because of this, some places like psych wards were established. One for people to stop loving someone else and a few more but i forgot because i read this book a while ago. In these "wards" people were abused a lot and brainwash them into changing their ideas. That is why the psych ward reminds me of the book. It is a good book, read it sometime.

I've been there for 3 days, it's a horrible place. I learned my lesson, don't share your real intention to CTB with others. If you do get committed to a psych ward, tell them what they want to know. cooperate with them and they will release you.

I don't really have anything against the staff in the pysch ward I stayed at, most of them were nice and well meaning, obviously everyone is different and some you will get on better than others. My problem is mainly the system itself, it does a very poor job of dealing with people who have complex problems, it seems like they just want to brush you under the carpet and be a problem for another day. Nothing seems to be done to help people get better everything is just a band aid dealing with the symptoms not the underlying causes. I think this is driven by money, why cure someone when you can keep them sick and keep selling your medications and procedures to the health providers. I do think the Doctors and Nurses are partly to blame, they should be fighting to change the system and not just blindly go along with it because it's the easier option.

I certainly hate how we exist in this hellish world where suicidal people are punished simply for wanting to die which is a decision in which they have every right to make. Psych wards just sound like horrible prisons to me, it's so cruel how you had to go through that, all those pro-life people only create more suffering.

Like I said some were okay but when you get told our job/goal whatever is to stabilize not make you better. I don't mean in the moment but in the totality of the stay. I find it problematic. It's kicking the proverbial can down the road.

Tax losses? To be honest I don't think the government or people care. People making the laws just don't want to be the euthanasia person. Bad message to send. "Vote for me so you can die" isn't a good way to get recurring votes....

People also want to feel good inside tell themselves you know what I'm not such a bad person. They don't want to live knowing people are dying because of them.

Care? Pftt. No way. They care about getting elected the next election, next move up the political ladder, etc.... They'll act nice kiss ass babies whatever doesn't matter end of the day you/constituents whomever couldn't matter less then just want your vote. You unless you know them nope don't care.

the government loses a lot in tax revenue from a suicide especially if its a young person, trust me they do care and its one of the only reasons that they care, very slimy people imo

just look at canada, theyre offering poor people to off themselves.. i wonder why...

I remember going to a psychward and thinking - wait, if I commited a serious crime against someone I would be read my rights before being locked up but if I say I'm suicidal they can just throw me in this place until they decide to let me out?

Some are better then others. It did feel really degrading. Also, something has to change in psych wards... They need to let people outside.

I think in most places psych wards have to be locked by law. Otherwise you could go outside and kill yourself. Same reason they don't allow shoelaces, normal clothes, etc

Oh yes, they did let us outside in a 4 ft x 4 ft area where we got to throw around balls.
