Decided to test the propranolol which I had bought for the SN method for anxiety. Works great for me! The anxiety provoking thoughts are still there but the physical dimension to it was gone; after about 30 minutes I felt really in control of myself. On the evening that I took it, me and some friends were stopped by the police on the way home and I was so calm that I even started poking a little fun at the cop who pulled us over.

Moral of the story: it's pretty safe and if you haven't tried it yet, give it a go! Way better than getting addicted to benzos and having to go through withdrawal / maybe fucking your neurotransmitters up long-term even. It's also promising in that, as far as I understood it, it could lessen your anxiety even after discontinuing the drug, because you start to form new memories of stressful situations that normally trigger it (but this is merely my own speculation; there are some studies which found it potentially useful in trauma therapy, where the hypothesis was that recalling traumatic memories under the influence of propanolol could then alter the emotional response associated with said memories).

Edit: I took 20mg. Since the version I have isn't slow release, the short half life of it means I have to take it every four hours approximately (so three times a day).

I'm glad it works for you! It does sometimes help with the physical symptoms of anxiety for me, too.

If you have a tremendous fear but feel no sensations of it, it may ease over time (nasty anxiety-sympathetic-response cycle). Sounds promising.

I always felt norepinephrine itself, though it has a delicate balance, is "simpler" in terms of dosage/effect, comparing to other meds "full-on" effects (alter everything)

Be careful stopping it suddenly if you're using it for a prolonged period and it does change your heart rate and stopping suddenly can be detrimental. Also, if you've got asthma use it with caution.

I'm only gonna use it sporadically from now on I think. It sems to blunt affect in general and is contraindicated with depression which doesn't sound like a good idea for a suicidal person.

This is what I do, I usually just take it before I go to class.

I've had some bad anxiety attacks last night which reminded me of coming off of alcohol. Not sure if this was related. No drug without a rebound effect I guess :-(

@justanotherday what were the side effects for you?

In a way I miss m my propranolol. A few weeks ago the doctors switched me to venlafaxine and I feel like it's for the worse. The heart palpitations were so bad when they returned. The only welcoming thought is that I Ctb with heart problems

Yes I take 80mg TID, even missing it by an hour I start to feel my anxiety rising, HR, BP and then my mind starts panicking. Drinking on it? Sometimes scary, sometimes interestingly peaceful? It seems it'll drop my BP so low that I'll be barely breathing (catch myself reminding myself to breath, get up walk around, almost fall upon standing) but I wonder if I drank a little more beyond those times if it would finish me.

I'm prescribed 120mg for anxiety.it technically works, but I don't like it. You do need to keep an eye on your blood pressure while using it. Could go low.

The only reason I don't like it is because it works on physical symptoms only. I need the thoughts to go away too. I'm not someone who has a problem with addiction, and benzos (specifically Ativan) are what's best for me. Unfortunately, nobody will prescribe anymore, even though I was on it for years with no issues.

I'm jealous of the lower doses I'm seeing lol I started at 40mg but now I'm at 240mg total daily, makes me so tired but that's what they want so I'm chilled out, now if I could just get my mind right.

Damn those 20mg spaced me out a little already; can't imagine taking such a huge dose. Do you build a tolerance with them???

It seemed to work briefly and then wouldn't so my doc would increase the dose and then frequency. My resting HR was usually around 110-120 and my BP was 145/90+. That's why if I mess up taking it, I feel that shit lol. Now I sit around 85bpm 125ish/80 and that "I think I'm being stabbed or heart attack" pain also went.

Okay. I think for me it was 15-30 minutes until it kicked in? Let us know how it worked out in the end!
