  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

As per title; any users that disappeared after narrating their method ("I've just taken SN" etc.) and what method did they use?
Cheers.

I think SN is the most common method that people use to ctb on this forum. Recently there has been quite a few goodbye threads where it is assumed that they have left as we have heard nothing else from them. At least now all those people are at peace and are free from suffering,

That true but how likely is it that they all made a goodbye thread, we never hear from them again and they are still alive? They would surely come back and post here at some point if they failed.

This is why when I CTB I will have a partner. I will also have an observer to report back. I think those 2 things will help with legitimacy.

Honestly, l think two things regularly occur on this site:

1) people make a goodbye thread for reasons other than a genuine ctb. By definition this website houses vulnerable and damaged people and sometimes this can manifest in dramatic ways. This is kind of understandable but on occasion I've seen people do it because they feed off watching others grieve for them, and this is harmful imo.

2) this site is not as warm, cosy as folk would like to believe - look in any goodbye thread and amongst the well wishers you'll find at least one dickhead asking DOES IT HURT, HOW LONG AGO DID YOU TAKE IT, IS YOUR SKIN BLUE YET etc. To go through this and then return to admit that you decided against is embarrassing for the user, few people want to admit that after all the drama, their SI kicked in, l guess.

Truth is, some people on here made goodbye threads and didn't ctb, others made no such pronouncement but DID ctb. It's ultimately none of our business really, and l find it a bit ghoulish that people often ask HOW MANY PPL HERE ARE DEAD as if there's some kind of tally, or because they want to pore over liveblogged death throes for "research".
This is why when I CTB I will have a partner. I will also have an observer to report back. I think those 2 things will help with legitimacy.
None of these things matter. It's your own death, you don't owe any of it to any online community.

Yeah, but what if no one grieves for them. "Shit I just died and nobody cared" :pfff: It could backfire on them.

But, how does one see this happening? It just seems pointless to fake CTB on a site where people CTB all the time and where no one knows you.

Anyway it's why I won't make a goodbye thread, having to explain yourself of why you're not dead because of SI so everyone knows you're not trying to fake it and then being embarrassed because you couldn't do it is such a needless burden.

Of course but I want my CTB to provide more information on SN. Help people feel more comfortable with this method.

So you want to ctb but only once you have a partner and a white-coated, clipboard-wielding observer to ensure it's accepted as scientific research? Nah mate.

Well some usually ask those who have taken sn whether it hurts ( time taken etc.) because they feel it would help them in their making of decisions on how to ctb. . No one is a dickhead here and it's never wrong to ask about anything

I know why they're asking it and it's ghoulish, frankly if your first thought in seeing someone dying is to hurriedly gather your research notes before they expire them yes, you are a dickhead.

No one is ghoulish here but most of us here are very desparate and at one time most of us are going to ctb..and by the way some people who write those good bye threads offer to give that information for the benefit of others..you are the dickhead.

And literally nobody can vouch for the accuracy of goodbye threads, as stated above. People only get one death, it's something that should be treated with more respect than having some online idiot demanding information - if they give it, it's up to them and it should be viewed as unscientific anyway, but to come out and ask is a real dick move.

I made a post in the suggestions section on this site saying that comments on goodbye threads that are of other users asking the OP to give them info on their method, for example asking them where they got their N, SN etc. should be banned, as it's absolutely not the appropriate time or place to be asking such questions, especially considering that all that info is already available on this site. I understand people are desperate but in my opinion it's extremely disrespectful and insensitive to be asking such things on someone's goodbye thread. I think a mod responded agreeing and that we can report these types of comments and hopefully they'll be deleted

Fully agree with this and I'm grateful to you for posting this, I'd forgotten how much adolescent inanity exists on this site and it really appalls me how so many people profess to be suicidal yet have absolutely zero respect for the act of self-inflicted death - worse still, they seem to think they are doing a kindness to the "ctb community" by doing this worthless research.

The thing is, if I did a goodbye thread and was happy to answer questions then what right do either of you have to censor me?

From a life of little choice what elevates your wishes against mine? Yes some dicks will ask the most insensitive questions but I will preface things with subjects I am happy to talk about or not. If they can't or won't read then they will join my final ignore gang.

This really isn't a dig at all but it's my choice to make and not yours, though I do concede you have some valid points about sources and other things found elsewhere.

I wouldn't seek to censor you, you're correct, it's not my right. If you wish to take questions as you expire that's your choice, it's your death - just be aware that for all the effort it's of zero value, ultimately.

The difference is with people popping up to do research in an obnoxious and disrespectful way. It absolutely devalues the person passing into being a research experiment. It's death, it should be treated with respect.
