While the S. hanging threads are rather detailed, one problem I'm sure some have is the inability to obtain "proper" rope. Although the title suggest a lack of money there could be other reasons someone considering S. hanging can't obtain rope. So, my question is what would be the 2nd best option to use for S. hanging with similar lethality?

I read that cables are not the best ones. They seem to be to "fragile" and they are pretty much uncomfortable.

I tried it, super hard to deal with, you get awake for a long time, it hurts, you fell a pressure in your head, it is painfull enough to make you cut the cable ties. there is better ways all around this forum.

I'm really curious how 25usd isn't obtainable? That's how much it costs for "climbing rope" on amazon.

Hanging is the poor man's hanging. Every single post and comment about "proper" rope is just waffling and beating around the bush. Literally no person on earth is prevented from hanging themselves by a lack of money.

Hanging is scary and daunting. People fear that it will be painful and mentally distressing. Thinking that obtaining the "right" rope is what'll make someone go from ideation to action is like thinking that obtaining the right shoes is what'll make someone finally take up jogging.

I always thing the same when ever i see "what is the best thing to hang yourself " etc . ive seen lots of hanging videos on Theync with ropes , string , chains , belts , sheets , scarfs ,hose pipes etc , there must be millions of things that will get the job done

I'm doing it with a belt

Don't recommend it. My first attempt was hanging with a belt, albeit with partial suspension. That was bloody terrifying, and quite painful. It couldn't hold me up long enough, and it came undone. Seems like they can become easily undone (or maybe I just tied mine really poorly; I can't remember). I don't know if there's a strong type of belt, and while you can achieve death with a belt, it's not the material I'd recommend. Well, hanging in general is a scary way to go for me and I wouldn't recommend it in general.

I don't disagree, but when someone is planning not idealizing, it's a different story. Some prefer getting it right the 1st time rather than on the 5th or so attempt. If you're desperate enough I'm sure people would resort to using shoelaces.

after my last attempt i was admitted to a psych ward for a few days and they let me keep my leather belt and laptop charger cables. there were metal clothes hangers bolted into concrete walls so yeah, made me laugh. and yes i considered. im in the netherlands so i guess its different overhere; my ex lives in texas and has been suicidal as well and at her psych hospital she couldnt even go to the bathroom without a nurse attending.

I would be hesitant to try anything but rope. Everything else seems too flimsy or too difficult to tie off correctly.

A tie, a belt, a bed sheet, a dog leash, cables, etc. test that it can hold your weight first, and you can pad it with a shirt or something soft. I don't think having a "proper" rope matters. Look in the media at reported hangings, even celebrities don't seem to use climbing ropes or anything "proper".

"A tie, a belt, a bed sheet, a dog leash, cables, etc."
People use a bunch of things but take a look at how many times on the forum people fail using non-rope. The risks arnt just "it didn't work" but serous lasting injury.

Somebody posted it elsewhere.
I don't know how, but this guy had succeeded with the minimum of materials. The shittiest rope possible.
And pay attention, he's almost in a praying mantis position and without any signs of fighting and thrashing around....
