Poll: Why are you sober right now?

Well I'm bored and sober (trying to cut down again after having been through recovery and relapse). I'm probably missing a bunch, but I often get confused when depressed people don't automatically reach for drink/drugs, but I think I've come up with a few decent reasons for you all.

I used to drink heavily, but nowadays I cannot avoid hangover and I hate having an entire day ruined with headache and nausea.

I'm an alcoholic. When I drink I can't stop. I had 3 years sober and then fell off the wagon back in September and have been relapsing ever since. I've got to the point now that when I drink, it's a phenomenal amount And I end up self harming or attempting to CTB in a very disorganised and unplanned fashion. I wish I could go back to being sober however I don't care what anyone says, it's boring as fuck.

The reasons I don't drink alcohol or use any drugs are many and complex, and I can't trust myself to articulate them all accurately. It's a mix of my bad experience with alcohol, hating the taste, being poor, fear of addiction, fear of behaving dangerously while under the influence, not wanting to be judged by others, and probably a host of other neurological factors I'm unaware of. Ultimately though, I'm simply lucky that I haven't become dependent on any such substances, so far anyway.

I'm not. I'm in a forced holiday because work law order us to take 15 days of break on work during the summer in my country. When I work, I drink every evening. Now I'm in holiday so I start to drink much earlier.

I was high all day everyday for 3 years. It gets old, and once the illusion broke me for that weed could actually solve my problems in any meaningful sort of way, I just lost the urge to smoke every time I felt upset

I'm fifteen years sober. I still expect to CTB someday, but in the meantime, I no longer enjoy the feelings or consequences of drinking.

I used to be a heavy drinker and drug user. I only did it so I could be social and be someone else (my abusive ex forced me into situations where I would have to be drunk or spaced out on drugs to be ok). I realized it made me feel worse...the rebound depression and anxiety, the hangovers. I haven't really touched alcohol much and completely cut out hard drugs. Now I'm just a benzo addict..I get it prescribed but I wish I could stop that too.

I quit all my vices and am going to reward myself with them before I go. My last day on earth will include Xanax, alcohol, and a cigarette and I can't wait.

I'm on phenibut/kratom and I have so much tolerance that they barely do anything for me anymore. Which is a shame, considering that I am chronically stressed to the point of near-insanity and I really need it to fucking work!
