With the latest YouTube video about this site, many people have already pointed out the obvious: It will have the unintended consequence of driving more suicidal people here.

If these people think this site is so dangerous and damaging- then they have surely just sealed the fate of a lot more people... I wonder if they feel responsible for that. (To be clear- I don't think this place is some death cult. I do think there is the 'danger' that- given access to more peaceful methods- more people will CTB. Still- these can be found elsewhere on the internet. I don't however think the site itself drives people to their deaths.)

I was so happy when I found this site via the NYT article. Just out of interest- how many other people discovered it through that? I think there are quite a few. If not that- did you find this place through another pro-life article or video? I thought it was kind of perversely ironic at the time.

Makes you wonder how many suicidal people will find their way here as a result of the recent YouTube video. I suspect we will receive an upsurge in pro-lifers and trolls but he will have (unintentionally) pointed a few desperate people in the direction they have likely been hoping for. Like other people have said- his moral crusade will likely backfire in the long run...

I'm sure I just found this community on a search engine when typing in the word suicide. And I'm so glad to be here.

I found out about this site from reddit. I lurked when this place was originally a subreddit before it got banned.

I'm not 100% sure how I found this place. It wasn't through a media panic, but I did find "Final Exit" that way. For a hot minute there, print media were flailing about this terrible suicide recipe book, and waxing breathless about how it was in big bookstores in the whichever section, where even innocent children could find it!!! And if the innocent children couldn't find it in the store, and didn't want to risk asking an employee to order it, they could probably find a copy in their very own public libraries!

Which is exactly what I did. Not that I was a child (or innocent) even back then, although I was pretty young. Thanks to the helpful directions, I managed to put together a suicide kit which had maybe a 20% chance of success, and which I kept for quite some time. Sometimes it's enough to know you could get out of here if you needed to.

I think "concerned" people who broadcast NEW SUICIDE RESOURCE HERE do think they're helping, which I guess they are, after a fashion. It would help even more if they consistently worked at helping make human life more worth living, but that's hard work and it gets boring, and it doesn't net you that dopamine hit of "hero" attention.

I found this site whilst researching methods, and my first thoughts were wondering why it existed . It wasn't until several months later when I searched up methods again and came back to the forum. I saw how there was a lovely community where people could speak freely, so I made an account. I do wish "normal" people would listen to us and understand us instead of sending hatred and pity our way.

Me too. It definitely wasn't here I first found out about SN. It may have actually been a police report that showed pictures of a full suicide kit. You'd think they wouldn't be so careless really. We wouldn't allow that here!
