• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Do you think you would be punished for expressing your honest thoughts on suicide on other platforms

I had to shorten the poll name for the actual poll.

It might be a hint to average people why people are so attracted to this allegedly evil forum.

I was even insulted for my suicidality in other forums. And I would probably be banned or punished in another way. The rules on other platforms concerning suicide are a joke in my opinion.

Oh yes, absolutely. Nevermind other platforms, I'd be banned from this place if I were to voice my honest thoughts about suicidality and life

I would be called crazy, stupid, delusional, sick, a psychopath and people would probably tell me that I've lost my mind.
The other group would start to bully me.

Anything that is not strictly suicide awareness and prevention is perceived as pro-suicide almost anywhere online and in real life, so yes.

Definitely. Beyond mental wellness platitudes and the thrown-in hotlines it seems the mainstream attitude is to avoid deeper discussions of suicide. I can't count the number of times I've been smacked with feel-good articles and the hotline when trying to research suicide from an entirely academic curiosity. It seems like the Internet and societies have determine what is best of us when it comes to discussing suicide, which is to moralize suicide and suppress information that may paint it differently.

I would like to see more people discuss suicide in good faith and explore what it means to have that freedom to choose suicide without the desperation caused by man-made suffering.

Tentative yes. A lot of places it would be against the rules for one thing. Beyond that I expect some to get upset with me. It depends how you approach it though. Most times people have seemed to accept my views and see where I'm coming from when I've been gentle about it. Most can see mercy in it in my experience.

I do know for a fact that a lot of people outside of this forum are just not ready to hear the kind of thoughts I muster on a daily basis in regards to how little I regard my life.

Especially, hearing stuff from my mother during this Christmas just made me wonder even more what's even the point of being alive, knowing that I am who I am because of someone else's gamble going horribly wrong.

I received a three day ban from Reddit for expressing suicidal ideation because 'wishing violence, including towards oneself', is not allowed. Other spaces I am active in eg discord servers do not allow candid discussion around suicidality though I understand why as it can be difficult to moderate. Basically I feel there is nowhere I can go and be honest about this. Except perhaps here.

Cancel culture has become far too common in big tech. The "happy algorithm" at the very least will shadow ban content with SH .

I find it amusing that everyone advocates so hard on mainstream platforms for mental health but when it comes to people voicing things connected to their mental health, if it doesnt meet the status quo of getting better, they immediately will be called crazy, outcasted, etc. Or told to go to an institution because they cannot fathom the reality of mental health. I would most definitely be banned lol

Since I agree that the lighter version of the Swiss model (similar one, but with much less restrictions and without the money requirement/practically available to everyone) should be accessible anywhere in the world, I might not necessarily be banned. Or at least I do not know. So, that is how I voted as well.

Yep. I used to frequent the suicidewatch and depression subreddits on Reddit, but stopped because I couldn't stand the endless comments of "Life gets better!!" and "Don't kill yourself, you're loved!!" I mean, I understood why people would say things like that, they had good intentions, but the meaningless platitudes just frustrated me so much. And I couldn't say anything about it or else I'd get banned or downvoted into oblivion.

I thought Reddit was the only place I could openly voice my opinion. Nope.

So glad I joined SaSu.

Yes, most places are extremely anti suicide to a fanatical degree. Many places have rules against posting about suicide and signpost to professional services that are notoriously dangerous. Even some private spaces like emails get scanned for suicidal intent. Don't forget this is a prison.

I'm sure a person would be banned for talking about suicide in a pro-choice manner on other forums. 'Punished' though? How? I guess other members might feel affronted and start hurling abuse at them. I'm sure they would respond with warnings and bans. Unless there was enough to suggest a person was at risk. In which case, they could alert authorities I suppose. Which would feel like a punishment but might actually be well (but maybe naively) intentioned. I'm sure it's abolished wherever possible though.

Yup, got an old Reddit account banned over such a comment in r/suicidewatch.
No one wants to admit that suicide can be a rational and reasonable choice.
