It takes a big push for me to force myself in there. It's not even the showering itself really, as I quite enjoy it once I'm doing my thing. It's everything else that gets me. Like drying off, finding new clothes, brushing my teeth etc. Giant pain in the butt.

Not so much for me the downsides of not having a shower outweigh the annoyance of having to go to the trouble of one. Being bothered to eat is my Everest sometimes.

I'd say worse: a climber actually want to reach the top of the mountain instead I don't want to shower, I have to.

I worked in the City of London for 30 years, showered and shaved, suited, and booted every day, 12 months plus on risperidone I was a soap dodger my family had to force me to shower and shave, I couldn't believe it I had severe brain fog I thought I was brain-damaged.

Even after stopping them I had no will power, the brain fog continued, only after taking multivitamins C, D, and Cod Liver Oil by accident I noticed a difference, clean of all that poisonous shit, and I enjoy showering and shaving again but it's taken a good 15 months.

They still prescribe these and other pills like smarties and don't tell you of any side effects.

Cheers

Geo

I usually just wait until my body odour becomes a flammable vapour and then light a match. Instant cleanliness. It's also good for nuking body hair, so no more shaving or haircuts needed. It really is the perfect solution.

To me, waking up in the morning is a huge effort. I want to just go back to sleep and do nothing. But, I have to be up, 5 A.M. 5 days a week to work a job I really don't need much longer....why....?

Yes, chronic pain and fatigue particularly make this difficult. I do have some hacks that I use though, because I work (remotely) and basic hygiene is expected for video meetings. I have shower wipes - these are cloth wipes that foam up when you put them under running water. I use these to freshen up key areas such as the armpits, and the foam doesn't have to be washed off, you just dry yourself and you're done. I also have leave in shampoo that I can spray onto my hair. They make a big difference on days where I need to feel or look better, but can't muster the strength to shower. Strong mouthwash has helped on days when I can't muster the energy to brush my teeth as well. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing.

I bath instead of shower, but I feel the same most of the time.

I love the end result, much like after I've cleaned my place, but I loathe having to do the work.

If you manage to take a shower every day again, it's a small step for things to get a bit better.
Also, the colder the water, the greater you'll feel.

You're not alone! I only discovered them fairly recently when searching for shower alternatives because regular baby wipes don't quite cut it. They've helped a lot. I use a brand called Scrubzz, they seem to be the best I've tried because they're quite large and foam up really well.

Not at all. If water bills didn't exist or money didn't matter I would probably shower 3 times a day. I find it relaxing and peaceful, and it allows me to think without the urge to grab my phone to google suicide articles or some other information which I constantly do.

I'm the opposite. Since I don't have to pay a water bill since I'm in a college dorm (it's covered by my financial aid) I shower. If I don't shower I begin to lose my sanity since it relaxes me. If I was living on my own, then it'd probably be the opposite haha. Since I live with other people I'm forced to "keep up appearances" and look normal on the outside by shaving, showering, not repeating clothing etc. but if I was living on my own and NEETing I'd 100% stay in bed all day except to use the bathroom or barely eat something

That's exactly how I am, too. Keeping up appearances, shaving, grooming myself, dressing appropriately. It makes me feel bad in a way like I'm deceiving people by keeping up this facade and being unsuspecting of suffering any kind of mental or emotional anguish. I do it because I don't want people to pry or express concern for me.. but I would rather be remembered this way than looking disheveled and like I'd really fallen off the rails

Hmm. Hard to compare, but I get the idea. I find it difficult to talk myself into bothering with a shower. Once a week is pretty good for me right now, but sometimes I put it off for longer, like this time around. I just don't see a reason and would rather lay down or do other pointless shit. Plus I don't go anywhere so who cares. Probably saving my mom some money anyway.

Geo, thats so great that you now feel a difference from your brain fog. I'm happy that it went away for you and you were able to get back to doing some of the things that you hadn't wanted to do while on the medication, like showering and shaving. Bet you clear up well (:
It's like the very things that can help us sometimes are the very things that can destroy us, or what they think can help us, destroys us more than we were before. Sucks that it is like that. That's why I'm scared to go on anything. I was on Zoloft (Sertraline) for about ten years and didn't have any adverse reactions to it except sweating easily under my arms, but then got off for a long time and now I'm frightened to go back on them so it's like I'm stuck in limbo. Do you take the cod liver oil for the omega 3 ?
No but brushing my teeth is!
Sometimes it's hard for me to do both, it's like the one thing was enough or all I could manage. What I have been doing and maybe it will help you too is take your toothbrush in the shower with you and it makes it much easier I find to brush them in there.

One month is the longest I've went without a shower. I was in such a scary, dark place..I am now too, but was worse then.

I hope that you will be able to manage a shower tomorrow. It does feel better after it's all over and I would love for you to feel better ❤️

But to be able to make that comparison you must first have climbed everest?!

Oh come on, climbing mount Everest ain't that hard anymore! If you do a lot of training beforehand and have a wheelbarrow full of cash, that is. So yes, still hard.

I shower daily, but sometimes I have 3 days of only washing my hair for presentation sake, because I just can't be bothered.

I find it so hard to convince myself to shower- chronic pain, fibro nerve pain that makes my skin burn so badly that the towel touching it to dry off is agonizing... depression draining my willpower, anxiety making me think (know?) everyone can smell me... paranoia... and that when i shower i need to shower "perfectly" so a half-assed shower isn't enough... every shower is exhausting.

Sometimes i sit in the shower partly because i feel like i'm going to fall over or faint, partly because i need to be a small ball to cry (why is this so hard? This shouldn't be so hard; shouldn't take up this energy...)

When i had my pixie cut it was easier to shower. But my hair is past my shoulders now- and so it takes so much effort to wash then dry it. Gah!

I've never climbed Everest... but showering is a monumental task. (((Hugs))) to everyone having this issue.

I do know though that once showered i feel refreshed, my hair is super soft and it's the only thing about me that i kind of like...

So it's worth it.
