Just had a visit from the Po Po at my house.

Long story short. I admitted to a new MH team that I had SN. They reported it to ambulance crew as nitrAte police got involved somewhere along the road - thought I was making explosives.

I told them it was nitrite not nitrate, he asked to see it, I said no. He asked why not? Me: Because I don't want you to take it. Cop: I can't that's theft. Me: I'm not willing to take that chance. Cops left.

I explained what it was for - ie I'm going to use it to kill myself. They all said nothing we can do - you're in your own house and have capacity (which I knew anyway otherwise I'd never had admitted what it was for). They asked me many questions as they basically wanted something to nick me on. They got nothing and left. I refused to go to hospital with the paramedics. They left also. Sweet ride.

I was shaking like a shitting dog hence my inability to lie - hate it!! My anxiety c-ptsd brain struggles to keep up and can't keep up with lies. Plus there was a time - not long ago - that lying would have found me locked in a cupboard.

Nice work. That would be scary in certain other countries. Do the bobbies carry guns?
Also way to go useless humans; didn't even get the substance right. If this was someone else (or maybe even you) sharing you had it could've been grounds to start some good therapeutic intervention - though likely not - but instead they send the freaking pigs to you. Fuck off..

You're right definitely more scary in other countries. No guns here but they did both have tasers but I guess that's pretty sensible if they thought I was making explosives. The one guy was about 40 foot tall!! They must have been like - fuck yeah a terrorist job this is gonna be so excellent. They also must have been sooooo disappointed when there's little old depressed me sat shaking, rocking and who just wants to die.

You don't need to lie, in fact sometimes that gets you into shit. Just say the bare minimum. If you feel like you need to talk, pick a random subject.

Last time I spoke to the police I talked about trees for an hour.

That highlights the other "useless human" aspect, being their just leaving after learning that. Is capacity a legal term? Where I am I think they might have grounds to haul you away if they suspect you are going to harm yourself, though maybe not if you seem mentally "competent". Perhaps this is what the capacity thing is.

As far as I understand from my frequent dealings with the police in the past few weeks, they cannot do anything if you have capacity, ie the ability to make a rational decision with mental problems, but the moment you attempt to do what you have decided to so when you have capacity...you lose capacity.

You can choose to kill yourself, but you cannot actually kill yourself.

your whole experience is whats preventing me from ordering SN. I've just been discharged from a ward and my agitation and worry is biblical. When I went awol the police kept harping on about montering my bank transactions and phone activity when returning me back to the hospital. I've not idea if they are bs'ing me or if they actually can. Headfuck.

I'm basically fucked. This system is so screwed! Go solve real crimes instead of harassing the innocent. Boils my blood!!!

Exactly this in relation to capacity. They can't do much if you wanna die in your own home. If they catch you in the act then they're duty bound to stop you or treat you. If you do it in a public place they absolutely will detain you. This is only for the UK dunno about anywhere else.
And whilst they were at your home, the real crooks did their work and other people didn't get emergency support.
I mean, I'm not sure if I'm being a bit sensitive here but - I didn't ask them to come. I hope everyone who wants it or needs it, gets emergency support. I wouldn't want to be responsible for them not getting it.

section 136 or whatever the F it is in the uk demands 2 feds to 'observe' someone in A&E till 'a bed' or due care is available. Shitshow system in reality. Real crime fighters. Systems buckled. 🙄👍🏻

Wow that's interesting. I thought if you told the cops you're going to kill yourself with something in the home they'd have to haul you away. Therapists can seemingly call when they want and I've heard of family and friends calling and that was enough someone was taken to a ward against their will. I live in the U.S. tho.

Policing in the uk now involves more social care than crime fighting these days. Unfortunately. That cycle won't be addressed until the on duty unit is tested beyond their means while tied up at the hospital. God forbid ofcourse! Tory cutbacks etc etc.

Anyway, I'll save my political spout for my family tomorrow who share no interest whatsoever.
I take pleasure in their disinterest. A small victory 😆

Wow in my state in the US as soon as you said you were planning to kill yourself with a substance they would have hauled you off to a mental ward/facility... forcefully as well. Not sure if they would be able to search the home and remove the SN but I could see that happening easily.

All I can think of saying is how is it that the folks in the UK seemingly have better and, frankly, more rights, than we do here in the States? I thought we have (had) such a wonderful Constitution here in the US, which is supposed to be the envy of the entire world?

I was thrown in a mental ward once because I told my roommate her boyfriend was cheating on her and he phoned the police and lied, making up some random shit about me being suicidal... I had a scratch on my arm that he claimed I self inflicted. They literally handcuffed me and threw me into the back of a van because I was "resisting" and wouldn't let me get shoes or my cell phone.

Wow. That's really messed up. It's crazy how one person's accusations can get another person on lock down. Can't even try to prove innocence at that point.
Not only that, it's all done with such anger and aggression. How is that helpful? They have all these rallies and advocates for suicide prevention, yet people are still being cuffed and thrown in custody, not even given the opportunity to explain the situation.
It's a shame, they claim to call it a "disease" yet treat those suffering from it like criminals.

It was genuinely a horrifying experience. I was only 18, in college, and didn't even know this was possible/legal. I was scared shitless, screaming and crying in the back of that van. This was before I even had mental health issues. I was sectioned another time in university for a genuine psychotic meltdown and it was a completely different experience. I just rode in a van, talking to the driver like I was in an Uber. The last time I was sectioned I was blacked out from a suicide attempt so I haven't a clue how that realistically went. I still can't comprehend why those cops reacted so aggressively and handcuffed me back then. Fucking crazy.

Wow, I honestly thought the US was a more gun ho, let people do whatever they want (ish) liberal and pretty cool country. That was until I came on this site. Then it's become pretty evident that people with MH in the US are treated horrifically. I cannot imagine how it would make me feel if I had these issues and I was basically just being exploited for insurance money. It's sick and cruel.

At least when we get sectioned, it only fucks our head and life up. When you guys get sectioned/detained, you also have a massive bill to deal with too. I was mortified to come out of physical hospital after an attempt to a £300 bill from the emergency locksmith the police used after they put my door in!!

All I can say is, it's really fucked up and I feel for all my over the pond cousins ❤️. The more I hear, the more angry it makes me.

You're 💯% correct! If your wife gets upset, she can call you in. You're taken against your will, observed in a facility, all guns taken and they decide when your head is to their satisfaction.
If they commit you, guns are gone forever.
If you self commit to take a break or change your meds, guns ok. If you decide to leave but they think differently, your commitment is now forced until they deem you safe. Tell them you're leaving, it's AMA (Against Medical Advice) and the court has their backs.
That was my first stay. I got pretty wound up. Family talked me into "a break". Didn't sleep with suicide checks every 10 minutes. Told them the next morning I wanted to leave and that I made a mistake. That's when they informed me of the above. I stayed 12 days (I payed for the stay Not a state institution). I wanted to keep my guns. Well, the ability to.
Sorry to hijack. I'm getting close and you guys understand me. I have this longing to get it out because nobody else understands the torment my head is in. They all say they do. I could rip walls down when I hear that.
Thanks again and sorry.
