Sounds to me like voluntary (and rapid) population reduction is the only viable solution. I'm guessing such a suggestion would be shrugged off as alarmist fear-mongering by most people. Oh well, sixth mass extinction event here we come. I'm glad I have no descendants.

It's not taken that long for us to royally fuck up our existence, since day one of the industrial revolution the clock has been counting down.

Me too, but I'm a whimpering baby myself. I have a recurring waking/sleeping nightmare I'm in a room that's flooding. Die now? Or bob along the ceiling in the last moments and due anyway. Eh I ride the bus and don't have kids and do lots of hippie things-but inevitably and out of my hands....goddamn it.

I haven't seen many monarch butterflies around much anymore. Something is definitely up.

I don't mind going out sooner myself, but I feel so bad for so many people I know. I don't want them to suffer through the collapse...

I feel bad for our collective children, what a mess we've left them with. I don't trust humanity either. We seem to wreck anything that suits us in order to obtain shortsighted benefits. I also see population control/eugenics on the cards. It didn't have to be this way. Some part of me believes there is more than enough to go around and take care of everything and everybody.

I noticed this in recent years too. It's sad.

@Johnnythefox I can guarantee you that the mosquito population here is alive and well....so are the flies

There is, but it's wrongly distributed. Any kind of eugenics or depopulation will just hit the most vulnerable.

From article,

"Ehrlich praised the review, saying: 'It is extraordinary to have gone through all those studies and analysed them as well as they have.' He said the particularly large declines in aquatic insects were striking. 'But they don't mention that it is human overpopulation and overconsumption that is driving all the things [eradicating insects], including climate change,' he said."
