Hi to anyone reading this, I have 11 days, I have a flight and some travel and little else I need to do in those days and I'll be watching movies and reading a lot. TV and limited series are good too!! My favorite show of all time is The OA, but I have a pretty broad spectrum of interest for genre and vibe. Even broader taste for book, I will read literally any genre. I have worked through most of my own to-read list (essentials anyways) over the last few years, sci-fi and international classics and American classics and horror and books about species and mycology and pathology and historical events, historical fiction, and lately I've really enjoyed reading autobiographies and memoirs of non-famous 'normal' people who survived adverse/abnormal life experiences. I read Cameron West, PhD's 'First Person Plural' just for fun a few months back and it hit me so deeply that it sent me into a personal discovery spiral. It's amazing the impact fiction can have on us while we are alive, and how human experience really is the combination of objective events and how we narratavize to ourselves and others. Sorry for the ramble, please feel free to drop recommendations, or just to chat below about books, movies, or my CTB.

Thanks for anyone reading 🤍

-h

Thank you!! I'll check out the audio book first, since I forgot to specifically ask for some audio based recs too. Part of my trip will be a lot of driving when I can't physically read/watch. You're an angel for sharing 🤍

I have a few books I can add, I love Orlando by Virginia Woolf one of my all time favorite books.

There's the Left-Right Game on Youtube; .

I believe it originated as a Reddit post in R/NoSleep, or something like that -- it's an amazing work of fiction.

Another book I like it 'I Had That Same Dream Again,' by Yuro Sumino.

I hope you enjoy these recommendations. Peace be with you.

Please feel free to discuss the content with me. And don't die easy☺️

Kip from the Light Bringer series is my favorite character in all of fiction lol.

I'm not holding you to the same standard though. Just give it a try for some time and if you don't like it you can always drop it I suppose. We all have our opinions.

There's always something that we can enjoy, I suppose😅. It might be different for everyone though.

You're funny. I feel you. I always feel the need to give a similar disclaimer when I really promote a book I love... 'this particular character means everything in the world to me and this book makes the world make sense in ways I could never articulate.... But it's chill if you hate it 😋" lol thanks again. I googled it now just to see what it's about. It sounds really interesting and I think one of my roommates actually has one of these books floating around
Euphoria, Mr Robot, Dark
I loved Mr. Robot when I first watched it, and then my brain forcibly forgot it since it had to do with dissociation content, and then I got to enjoy it again for the first time 😂 thank you for the recs. If you liked Mr. Robot you may enjoy Moon Knight, the mini series. I begrudgingly watched it expecting it to be campy and too-Marvel and not that good but I was so emotionally engaged and the way the MC's sense of reality plays in the narrative is super similar due to the nature of the disorder

Thank you. And Orlando is the one thing on your comment that I have already read. Beautiful. I've always had a soft spot for her works. Thank you again for taking the time to write something and I'll look at the other suggestions 🤍

As much as I hate AI, AI can recommend some movies similar to the ones you like or with similar themes. Of course there is something real when an actual human being recommends one instead.

I don't know any of the things you mentioned, so I can't say much. My favourite movie is so obscure that I'd rather not share it, it's could make be identifiable.

Thats fair. I also hate AI but have been using it lately for this purpose, I snapped pictures of the huge bookshelves in this old library and asked it to identify and direct me to specific titles based on my criteria, it is the one genuinely helpful use for AI Ive ever thought of tbh. If you want to private message at all about movies/books, so you don't have to worry about feeling identifiable on the forum, i would love to chat!

I keep hearing about Red Rising, but I also keep hearing it's very young adult from a lot of people, which is big turn off for me. Then others say it's not YA at all.

What's your take?

I honestly enjoyed it a lot. I think you should try the first book. I tried the audio book for it. You can download it from here. https://audiobookbay.lu/abss/red-yrising-book-1-red-rising-series-pierce-brown/

The narration is epic. Also most audiobook players can increase the playback speed. So you can get through books really quick if you want to.

Highly recommend any books by Robin Hobb. Start with Soldier Son and then move on to Farseer. Rainbow Rowell's Simon Snow books are also wonderful. You much of an anime person? There's a few anime on my list that I feel like people should see before they die. The 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist is one.

Thanks for the recs. I don't watch anime all the time but I've definitely dabbled, especially the kind of anime like that u must see before death. Ty again :-)
